Heart Rate Rapid Increase

Just wanted to check the forums before contacting Fitbit about an issue I have been having with my heart rate monitor. So when i'm resting I'll notice that the heart rate on my fitbit ionic will suddenly shoot up rapidly in a matter of seconds from my resting heart rate around 72 to about 140 in increments of 5 beats. It usually stays extremely high unless I notice it and shut off and on the heart rate monitor. I've tried a factory reset and other troubleshooting methods (wearing my fitbit looser, connecting and disconnecting it)  but I consistently have the same problem where my heart rate at random times will suddenly just spike rapidly and stay very high. Just curious if anyone has come across this problem and how they dealt with it before I go to fitbit and see whether they can replace or fix the issue.

Welcome on board @AryGho, it's nice to have a new member here! Thanks for already trying the Factory Reset, nice way to go!

While reading your post I was wondering if you just got your Ionic? If so, since you just bought the Fitbit, give the heart rate a few days to settle down. It does some calculations, looking at heart rate throughout the day and while you are sleeping, so it might just not have enough data to give a reasonable value yet.

Also, I'd recommend is performing a restart on your Ionic. This should help you out. Robot Very Happy

Then, I'd check the wrist placement I'm using while doing exercise. It has a lot to do with the accuracy of the heart rate readings. Make sure you are not wearing it too tight as that may interfere with the signal. Use the watch a little bit far up your wrist (like one or two fingers from your wrist bone on a regular day); blood flow is stronger there and you will get a better and more accurate reading. If you are doing exercise; it is recommended to use it 2 to 3 fingers from your wrist bone for improved heart rate accuracy.

Please check this helpful article for more details about heart rate accuracy.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

I got my fitbit in July so I had it for about a month before the heart monitor started acting up. In regards to wrist placement I tried all different places and wearing it lose and tight and it consistently kept giving inaccurate readings that were rocket high. I was actually able to get in contact with Fitbit and they informed me that they are aware of this issue and it is something wrong on their end. I find this a bit odd since I've tried looking up this issue on the forums and just the internet in general and I haven't seen a case like mine yet. I called back recently (about 3 weeks since they told me the issue was on their end) and they said that they are still trying to resolve the problem. They said they couldn't issue me a new watch since technically they are still "working" on resolving the issue with mine on their end and they couldn't tell me when it would be fixed. So basically I'm stuck with just step count until they decide to fix it or issue me a new watch which I feel they can drag out for as long as they want. Not to happy with receiving a pricey watch and having it malfunction for 2 of the 3 months I've had it with fitbit just saying to wait for them to fix what seems to be an isolated issue when they could just replace mine.
