Heart rate when not wearing device - tracking sleep

Hi All,

I have just bought a Fitbit Ionic and used it for a couple of days.

My issue is that the LED is blinking continuously when taken off and the device registers completely wrong heart-rate for hours when left there.

This is definitely not normal, devices like this should sense being taken off promptly, accurately and without confusion of any kind.

I have already restarted it 2 times as suggested on the forums but no difference.

Yesterday the device registered two hours of extra sleep because it was taken off for two hours before I went to sleep.

How fast should the Ionic sense when it is taken off ?

Should the LED blink even when taken off?

Some of the support answers refers to switching the Heart Rate Sensing to "Auto" but there is no such option in the Android app or in the menu of the tracker.

Hello @asoltesz thanks for bringing this to my attention, welcome to the Community Forums! Let me give you a hand with your Ionic.

Seems odd that your Ionic device is measuring heart rate data when you're not wearing it, thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot this situation prior to posting. If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check the troubleshooting steps that are specified on: Why don't I see my heart rate on my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes after trying them. I'm aware that your device is in fact tracking heart rate data, however, the troubleshooting steps that are specified in that help article will be really helpful for this situation.

Also, please check: How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device? for more information about this specific feature. Please take in consideration that sleep autodetection is based on your movement. When you haven’t moved for about an hour, your device assumes that you’re asleep. Additional data—such as the length of time your movements are indicative of sleep behavior (such as rolling over)—help confirm that you’re asleep. Morning movement tells your tracker that you’re awake. If you’re not moving but not asleep for long periods of time it’s possible for your device to falsely record sleep, in which case you can delete the sleep log from your history.

Let me know how it goes, I'll be around.

@RicardoFitbit Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately, those articles didn't contain anything that would help with this matter.

The problem is not that it DOESN'T measure heart rate (Which is the exclusive topic of Why don't I see my heart rate on my Fitbit device?) but that it ALWAYS measures a heart rate even when it is impossible to measure any kind of heart rate since the device is taken off and placed on a desk.

The sleep article has no direct relevance to my issue since that the issue is obviously connected to the wrong / invalid heart rate measurement.

From your answer, I infer that the Ionic should loose heart tracking very soon after the device is taken off and should not register an imaginary heart rate measurement for hours (/s).

Hence my device is faulty and I should return it and request a properly working one. A faultless Fitbit Ionic will notice when I take it off and stops registering imaginary heart rates.

Is this correct?

Notes:

1)

Ionic firmware version 27.33.1.30

2)

The heart rate measurement is pretty accurate when I am wearing the device.

However, it is worthless if it registers invalid data when I take it off (which happens every day)

I am having the same issue, I have restarted it multiple times. I have even switched the HR off on my watch and the green light stays on. What should I do?

i did read that possibly changing to a Fitbit clock face could be the issue, I’ve changed back to the original clock face, and the issue still persists. This is draining my battery. Please help.
