How do I sync my Ionic with new phone?

Hi,

I switched phones today (Windows 10 Mobile to Android). So I also installed the Fitbit app, logged in with my account and it shows my Ionic under devices. But problem is it can't sync/connect/pair with the device that is already in the list. So is there a trick to make it pair or do I need to remove the device and re-add it in the app?

Edit: Thread can be deleted by a Moderater. (was my mistake, the old phone was still sitting on my desk, with power + Bluetooth on and Ionic was connected (paired) with it. After unpairing on the old phone it synced on the new phone)

@Moosiepops   You added on to a very old thread in a forum for a recalled device.  I think you should start a new thread in the appropriate phone forum, Android or iOS, with more details about your specific issue and what you tried.  Include your Fitbit model.

Hey there @Penecho, thanks for stopping by and updating this thread with the outcome! Robot wink You're totally right, since your tracker receives call, text and calendar notifications, it has a Bluetooth "bond" with the phone or tablet that sends the notifications. This bond prevents the Fitbit device from syncing with another phone, tablet, or computer.

To quickly and temporarily disable the bond, turn off Bluetooth on your phone or tablet. You can turn it back on later to resume syncing.

If you no longer use notifications, remove the bond:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your phone or tablet  to see a list of associated Bluetooth devices. This list might contain only your Fitbit device or also include devices like wireless speakers, headsets, etc.
  2. Tap the name of your Fitbit device and choose "Forget This Device" or "Disconnect" (exact language will differ depending on your operating system).

You can now set up your Fitbit device using another phone, tablet, or computer.

Happy stepping, hope you enjoy your new Ionic!

I have the same problem except that my old phone, which is still paired to my device, bit the dust and is completely unresponsive to the touchscreen, so I can't get into the phone in order to disconnect it from that phone.  How can I get it to pair with my new phone?

@901norma If your old phone is unresponsive and non-working it is unlikely you’ll need to worry about trying to get it to “unbond”. Assuming it’s off, it won’t be trying to interfere with the Ionic trying to pair with your new phone.

thanks for the response, but how do I get it to pair?  the fitbit doesn't show up in my bluetooth on my new phone.

Sorry @901norma but not sure at what stage of the setup you are at. Do you have the Ionic in your Fitbit account already? Also, what phone are you trying to pair to?

Thanks again!  The old phone was still turned on.  Once I finally figure out how to turn it off (because I couldn't use the touch screen!), my fitbit immediately paired with my new phone.

Ah, the old “fixed it by turning off the other device” resolution, that surprisingly (or not) catches out so many. Glad you got it sorted.

I unpaired my old phone, turned off Bluetooth, and turned off the old phone.  In the fitbit app the new phone finds the fitbit but will not connect.

I've done all that as well. No way to pair. Cant believe this bad functionality has been inflicted on us since 2017 and still not improved upon.

I finally got it to work. I uninstalled the app turned off the phone. Then factory reset the watch ( settings-about-factory reset) then turned everything back on and started over with installing the app and pairing.

I had a similar issue, where my phone had been stole (so assumably turned off but not certain) where it simply wouldn't pair with my Samsung Galaxy Note10 through the Bluetooth settings.

In the end I  went through the app:
- Clicked on the Account button, top left

- Selected my Fitbit (Versa 2 for me)

- Pressed "Sync Now"

It then sent a request to the phone asking to pair with my Versa 2 which I accepted and the two devices were paired!

Worth a try if you're still struggling before wiping everything!

Thanks for this. It worked.  I tried a few different ways via youtube and it was so convoluted I though there must be a better way.  Thank you.
