How do you know if it needs an update?

Hi there @Momtaxi18. 

I'm glad to help you to find the update for your Fitbit Ionic. Please note that firmware updates only become available in the Fitbit app. To see if there is an update available please do the following: 

1. With your charged Fitbit device nearby, open the Fitbit app.
2. Tap the Today tab, tap your profile picture and then tap your device image 
3. If there is an update you will see a pink Update button, so please click on it 
4. Follow the on-screen instructions and keep the device close to your phone, tablet, or computer during the update. After you start the update, a progress bar appears on your device and in the Fitbit app until the update is complete.
