Hi all the last 3 days I am getting inaccurate resting average. I was not sure till today but when I checked this morning after just getting out of bed my Ionic calculated 58bpm average from 12am to 3:50am when I got up. But my heart rate didn’t even reach 58bpm. Most it got to was 57 the low was 47 and hovering around 53ish for most of the night. Anybody else with this issue? Can it be fixed?
cheers
Glenn

Fitbit calculates "resting heart rate by measuring your heart rate when it detects sleep, and by measuring it throughout the day while you are awake but inactive (no steps detected)."
From another post...

Thanks for that but I am aware already how it is measured and the data I supplied was all when I was asleep.

Great. So that means you did not read this part of the answer:
"...and by measuring it throughout the day while you are awake but inactive..."

Actually, Fitbit only looks at your heart rate while you are awake to calculate RHR. More info here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/02/understanding-continual-optical.html

Yep read that too, but I’m talking about the average Fitbit is giving from the new day 12am to waking up in the morning.(see my first post) This part has changed dramatically for me. Iv had a Fitbit for 3years now and it always measured my sleep heart rate very well for eg. if 60 was high and 50bpm was low it would show me an average of 55bpm from 12am to 4am when I first checked it in the morning, and yes it would gradually become higher throughout the day as it measured my awake resting time. But now I’m getting a grossly inaccurate number first thing in the morning which throws out the rest of the day.
Only thing I can think of is the time zone is out, which I’m about to check now.
cheers

I've been having the same issue. Found this in Fitbit's help section.
"Resting heart rate refers to the heart rate measured when you’re awake, calm, comfortable, and have not recently exerted yourself. We use your heart rate data from when you’re awake and asleep to estimate your resting heart rate. For best accuracy, wear your device to sleep.
Your resting heart rate is usually higher than your heart rate while you are asleep, so don’t be surprised if your resting heart rate is higher than the lowest number that you see in your heart rate graphs."

Thanks for clearing up this issue in theory. My current concern is a little different. Since the last update on my Ionic, my RHR has stabilized and not changed for over 10 days .. It used to vary from 53 to 58 over a period that long. Sometimes it would stabilize for 5 days or so at 55. Now it’s been at 57 for over ten days even though I have exercised heavily some days and not at all others.. Something is off. Other than that, I have been very happy with the Ionic. It’s MUCH better with heart rates than previous models and I’ve had most if not all of them over close to 5 years.

I wear my Ionic to bed so it should have all the data needed. I have visually been checking my heart rate at different times throughout the day and I noticed 5 times today where my heart rate is way below 67 (RHR according to my Ionic). 62 as I'm typing this. I haven't once checked it and found it to be equal or above 67.
So this made me wonder if this is a static number or if it is dynamic figure.
Anyways it makes me question the accuracy of the day-to-day graph with my RHR.
