It's great to have you here @PocosBike! That's a great idea! I was checking the Feature Suggestion board and I found this idea Live Elevation Data (including changes during run/walk) on Device, this feature isn't available yet. However, this is the alternative solution that of our Moderators provided:

We’re excited to let you know that this Feature Suggestion has been developed by a third party developer, and can be downloaded from the Fitbit App Gallery available on Fitbit Smartwatches. You’ll find it by selecting your connected Smartwatch (such as Fitbit Ionic) in the Fitbit app, then choosing the ‘Apps’ tile and toggling to ‘All Apps’ at the top of the screen. You can then explore third party apps by category and choose your favorite of the relevant options available.

I have had a look at all the apps and can’t find one that will give you an accurate elevation gain reading whilst recording a hike on my Fitbit Ionic.

I use the hike record feature to record my hill walking and have it set up to automatically upload to my strava profile. At the end of my hike I can look on strava and see the elevation gain. This information has been recorded on my Fitbit ionic so why can’t I see this information on Fitbit. The middle display should have the option to show how many meters of elevation gain has been made. Is this something that can be done with an update ?

Totally agree. The only reason I purchased the Fitbit Ionic was to use the GPS. Two problems immediately apparent, 1) No Elevation tracking, 2) Very slow sync to Strava. Come on guys, get it fixed. This was not a cheap toy, it was an investment I'm beginning to regret.
