Hi, @DualPrsn, the answer is "no". As GPS is very battery intensive, it is designed to be turned on only for activities that make sense for mapping, such as "walk" , "hike" , "run" or "golf".
It really would not make sense to have it on for indoor activities, although I could see the logic for adding it to "workout", as that is an activity designed for renaming, so it would be useful for horseriding, canoeing etc. Maybe you would like to set up a feature suggestion, but do, please, check first to see if your suggestion, or a similar one, already exists.
