Hi all!

I am super excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 1.2! (Firmware Version: 27.31.1.29)

We've begun to roll out this new firmware to 10% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed. This firmware update includes:

Feature update:

What’s fixed:

  • We fixed an issue where some customers’ clocks didn’t update after switching time zones.
  • We fixed an issue where some customers experienced syncing issues after interrupting clock face installation.
  • We fixed an issue where some customers noticed the Exercise app crashed after double tapping an exercise.
  • This release also includes bug fixes and stability improvements.

Instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

I would also recommend updating your Ionic over Wi-Fi as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

The syncing problem is very annoying.

The reason of the problem is unclear.

It seems some people does not have sync problems, and some people have severe sync problems for the same firmware version.

I remembered that when the ionic arrived, it can connect to my phone easily, but after firmware upgrade, it is difficult to connect to both the phone and computer, and have severe sync problem.

Today, after the firmware upgrade, the sync problems seems to be removed. (It may be too soon to say that.)

I fixed the problem by holding all three buttons in at the same time.  It restarted and now works.  Maybe it just locked up.

@MattFitbitSleep stages are definitely fixed and I have just reedited the previous nights sleep and that became the "old" sleep display and that is back to normal graphics.

No issues here, but the first attempted syncing this morning was taking too long, so I turned off Bluetooth on the phone, tapped the red exclamation mark that appeared, tapped the message to allow Fitbit to turn on the Bluetooth and it synced immediately.  That's my workaround.

Sleep... I haven't had any issues with sleep graphics for months. So to check, I deleted last nights sleep record.  When I do this to join or correct an entry it always works and gives the correct graphic representation.

I have re-created it and deleted it twice.. on the PC and once on the phone..

Result:  the OLD type of sleep record, so it has to be a server issue... During all of this, I also re synced the Ionic..

We will see what happens in the morning.. Nearly midnight here.

Update successful...

  • Tried the update at work via office WiFi; epic fail.
  • Tried the update at work via Bluetooth on the phone; epic fail.
  • Tried the update at work via Bluetooth via my old Surge dongle on my laptop; epic slow.
  • Tried the update at home via WiFi; 20 minutes and DONE!  🙂

I spent all day trying to get the app to sync to Fitbit Ionic.

I have already force stopped the app, uninstalled/reinstalled the app twice, unpaired the device.  Now the device is no longer visible for bluetooth to locate to pair.  Is anyone else having these issues and able to successfully get this device to work again?

I have the same problem. Lost ability to synch with my Samsung Galaxy 7 and now my Surface Pro.  Can't detect Bluetooth.  Can get a partial update on data on the Samsung but it does not update the network so no credit for the synch

@MattFitbit, since the firmware update I have discovered that if I turn on WiFi on the phone before opening the Android app, it will sync almost instantly, but if I have WiFi disabled (as I almost always do), it takes multiple times and 5 to 7 minutes to sync the Ionic. Prior to the firmware update, I was not experiencing any syncing issues.

LOL hadn't synced and wouldn't. Then turn on wifi and syncs instantly. WTF does wifi have to do with sync?? Was an alpha product at best when I brought it and is clearly well and truly in beta.

I have:Ionic. Google Pixel 2 XL. Latest Android 9DP1 OS.

It has been only one night, but after the update the sleep analysis  did not get good enough heart rate data to display sleep stages. Never happened before.

I haven't had any issues with the Ionic except for the occasional sync issue where rebooting the Ionic solves the issue.  Judging from the more snappy response time after this update, that issue might be fixed.  I know the iPhone 7 and one other phone suffers the types of issues you describe.  Fortunately, my Moto Z Force has worked quite well with the Ionic.  Hope they get a fix for the iPhone 7 soon.  The Ionic is the best Fitbit device to date in my opinion.  But it is also the most sophisticated device to date from Fitbit, opening doors for issues such as what you are experiencing.  For a first Gen device, I would consider it a pretty good dry run so far.  My main focus in purchasing it as my first smart watch was battery life which they exceeded abundantly with my expectations.  I would hardly consider it a worthless device.  It was worth every penny of $300 to me.  Hopefully they can get the kinks out for you soon so it will seem worth every penny to you as well.  If not, I am pretty certain you can cash it out for something reasonably close to the original retail value assuming it is in pristine physical condition still.  But I would rather they get it working better for those with one of the series of phones having issues.

Are you able to successfully connect other Bluetooth devices to your phone? I've had no issues with my fitbit updating. I've just finished updating mine using my phone via Bluetooth (iPhone7) and I updated my wife's fitbit using my laptop also via Bluetooth. Didn't drop out once. It did take awhile but that's expected because Bluetooth in general is slow no matter what device you use.

Best $300 I've spent in a while! since August last year I've lost 16kg and it's very much due to the Fitbit Ionic. I use it for everything, when I walk, run, ride. I use it to monitor my calorie intake and it just keeps me motivated. The device is allot more sophisticated than others out there and definitely not a plug and play device so iPhone users might be held back or get frustrated due to it not being as intuitive or easy to use like an apple device. I work in IT so it's actually been fun going through the forums tweaking and customizing it to suite my lifestyle. Understand that some phones might have sync or connection issues however you do realize it can also sync with other devices like laptops or tablets? try other options to get past this hurdle while Fitbit developers rectify issues for specific devices. It's a new product, and there are hundreds of different phone brands, models, OS versions out there, obviously it may not work as well for some.

I reach out to Fitbit on twitter, despite working fine for 2 months ,they say my sync issues are due to my device not being on the supported list !!.I pointed out iPhones and Samsung's having same sync issues , surely they are on supported list !!!!!!

Complete cop out from Fitbit ,the update has broken sync .Never again ,4 devices in the house ,all will be change to another brand when replacing ,and ionic going on eBay

Was I just lucky that all my updates have worked just fine? This last one I completed this morning in my airbnb accommodation in Tokyo.
