Update 1/20/2021: The firmware is now released to 100%

We've started rolling out Fitbit OS 4.2.1 Firmware Update for Ionic.

We release firmware updates to all customers in phases. The update will be available to everyone soon, and a banner will appear in the app when you can install the update. If you don’t see the banner yet, check the app again later.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic device can be found here.

We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

I am curious as to how Fitbit is taking care of each case individually. There seem to be many us.
After the latest Firmware update bricked my Ionic, I was in touch with Customer support. Each time they offered possible solutions. I tried them all and nothing worked to bring my Ionic back to life. (And from following this forum, it is clear that I am not alone.) I do not feel taken care of and I gather (again from comments on this Forum) I am not alone.
These are not hostile comments-just truthful ones. Although I don’t present these as hostile, I will admit to being angry about Fitbit’s lack of adequate response to the issue they created.
In all sincerity I ask what you would have us do now.

Hi YojanaFitbit,

This is fine to know however my process with Support has been one of following the obvious processes to the point of a Factory Reset and further testing. Once the testing proved that the issue introduced by the last Update (which was to break the in built GPS) had not been resolved it was moved to Warranty (dept, if there was one) and I was told as it was out of warranty a discount was provided on another Fitbit.

The issue here was that I was told that i could NOT use this 'discount' on the Ionic replacement smart watch trackers - Sense, Versa 3 and Inspire 2

I was happy with my working Ionic. What are the engineers and product development team going to do to resolve my issue??

A rollback feature would be good to the previous firmware that we knew allowed the GPS to work might be a first step.

A new firmware update that is effectively going to fix the problems introduced by the last Fitbit update. The problem with this option is that Fitbit now has a track record of releasing updates which break and render the customers trackers and smart watches useless, broken, bricked or otherwise so TBH thats going to be a hard one to move forward with...

Another suggestion from me would be to remove the repetitive flash up reminder every time we open the Fitbit app indicating that there was a Firmware update... Its annoying, I swiped it off and out the way for a good 6 weeks before I performed the update. I so wish I hadn't..

"If it isn't broken, don't fix it' ... and I so wish I had not performed the last update for the amount of pain and financial cost that its bringing down on all of us affected by the issues on the Ionic's..

They took care of me fine until they checked the warranty. Then I was dropped like a stone... and offered a bit of a discount to buy yet another Fitbit  replacement piece of kit, to move me on, close the case.

I feel rather bitter that I invested in the company and the products to be cast aside due to an update they released and which broke my Ionic. (this is my 4th Fitbit product, BTW).

I’m just trying to stop others losing their Ionic by doing this update, not saying bad things about company just reverse and pointing out solutions, they are losing users as they can’t fix a minor thing and just want you to buy new models, the Office of Fair Trading and Trading Standards would stand by anyone wanting money back as Fitbit are to blame here and it’s in their small print to fix issues or replace where required,

This is about the update so meets their guidelines

Are people still having issues with this update?. My Ionic is not counting floors and all I am getting on repeat from the utterly pointless Live Chat is you must upgrade it will fix everything. Of course they have no idea anyone is having issues with the upgrade.

I am almost at the stage if it breaks I can get a Garmin and never have to deal with Fitbit again.

However just wanted to see what the current status on the upgrade is.

I have no idea what the current status of the upgrade is since the upgrade completely bricked mine. I did everything Fitbit asked and it didn’t bring it back to life. After many platitudes and requests to give them more money for a lesser device, I gave up. I now own a Garmin Swim 2 (swimming is my primary activity and that+the GPS were why I bought the Ionic). So sad. I think I will miss the Fitbit app. but I sure won’t miss the Fitbit uncaring attitude toward their customers.

I have gone for a Garmin 735xt - does the running and will do the open water swimming. Does not feel as well build as the Ionic, but we know with the Ionic that is deceptive. But hopefully it will last more than the Fitbit warranted period. Did not get a timer by default so needed to install one so I can cook at egg

Thanks
