Ionic Floors Accuracy Question

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'd like to hear if anybody has accurate floor counts with their Ionic. My Charge 2 is pretty accurate, but my new Ionic followed by the replacement I was given both have serious accuracy issues where they count far too many floors. Fitbit support has been working with me to resolve the issue amicably, as my original unit was new. I don't want to give up on the watch, as I really want to work with the app development kit, but I'd like to know what others experience has been.

How floors are counted

Floors are counted using an altimeter. An altimeter is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure and atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing elevation, so the it calculates elevation gain based on the reduction in atmospheric pressure. Your trackers register a floor when they detect continuous motion combined with an elevation gain of about 10 feet. Given the fact that 10 feet is an average between residential and commercial floor heights, although commercial floors in particular tend to be higher than residential floors.

It will add floors when it is windy or cold.

Floors have never been accurate. But it does not add calorie burn or anything thing Like that. I ignore it. If I could shut it off I would

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback, but I'm pretty well versed in the way it works, and I'm looking for specific experiences with the Ionic. As stated, I find my Charge 2 to be reasonably  accurate. My recurring daily commutes typically have a similar floor count which is fairly representative of the floors I know I climb (despite weather variations), and I've even hiked mountains with known elevations that compare favorably to floors counted.

Unfortunately I've had severe inaccuracies with the Ionics I've had thus far, and I'm trying to figure out if all models are problematic or I've just had defective units.
