Ionic GPS stopped working again

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

so this has happened before and I've no idea what solved it but it's back. GPS just says connecting but it never connects. Stood outside before the run and nothing. went for a run and nothing. didn't connect the whole time. I've seen a few people mentions this but no solutions other than make sure you are outside or turn it off and on again.

It's nice to see you around @SunsetRunner! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the GPS accuracy so far.

As you may already know, the GPS requires a direct path to the satellites in order to receive their radio transmissions, and there are several reasons why GPS data could be negatively affected.  The accuracy depends on both your environment and the weather; the GPS signal could be affected because you're underground, near many tall buildings, or as a result of atmospheric effects.

I'm aware that you probably already tried all the basic troubleshooting steps since this is not the first time you experience GPS issues, however, it won't harm to take a look at all the information here about the requirements, error messages and troubleshooting steps that could help to improve GPS accuracy.

Give this a go and let me know the outcome!

My husband and my Fitbit gps stopped working. Been in contact with Fitbit. Here is there solution

”we will send you a coupon and buy a new one”. Our Fitbit are only two years old. I recommend donot but another Fitbit. Terrible support. Warranty ran out in December and they stopped working in January.

@MarreFitbit what accuracy are you talking about? Did you read and understand the very first post in the topic? There is no talk about the accuracy because there is no working, connected to the satellites GPS unit in first place. This is what the topic is about, not about the accuracy of the GPS. I had recently two such episodes and accuracy and location have nothing to do with it. If they were how would you explain that mobile phone and another watch connected instantly and didn't drop the connection while being exactly in the same location as the Ionic? I wrote about it here. No any answer to the issue.

We are talking about not picking up GPS for over an hour in the first case and 30 minutes in the second. As you can see, other devices didn't have any problem with tracking my run ( so lucky I was to have them with me ). My Ionic is already "old device" as it's almost a year old so I expect this is just a sign of the end of its days.

Here's a sample of the problem in one picture:gps-searching.jpg

After 20+ minutes I just gave up on it and stopped taking pictures of the watch.

did you ever get this fixed? Just was on support and they told me it's an ongoing issue and that they apologize. That's it....

Might have to go back to Garmin because why buy an expensive gps watch if the gps feature doesn't work at all?

What kind of band are you using? I had a magnetic one and when I swapped back to a straight plastic one it started working again. Try that.

I have now just had the same experience. My Ionic has delivered perfect connection to GPR for the 1,5 years I've had it. I run in the same area all the time. The last few days, there is no GPS. It's just stopped.  Extremely annoying.

Mine stopped working last week. Like you I run in the same places all the time and have had no problem until now.

No, no, no .... I just switched from Garmin because the interface is so terrible it would go on and off as I ran past security cameras in parks etc. it was just such a bad experience that I’ve struggled with for years. So my new watch was... anything BUT Garmin. But now I just looked and my brand new Ionic gps just cut out part of my run. It stopped and seemed pick up at the same place on the way back. 🤔 does that mean the metrics etc are all incorrect? I guess so. AND I see so many with GPS problems. I don’t believe it. Is there no watch that can dependably track a run and a heart rate? I don’t need anything else. I dump all to Strava.

Good Morning @SunsetRunner @SunsetRunner @drmiw @Saramail @hopface , welcome!  Sorry to hear of your GPS issues, but as some have indicated, a "magnetic" band could possibly interfere, so be aware of that.  Also, Folks, when all else fails, try resetting your Ionic.  Here is how: Press and hold the left and bottom right buttons together, until the Fitbit icon appears, then release.

The reset has always worked for me when things get hookie and hopefully will for you as well!  PLease advise back should you need further assistance and please Keep on Stepping!

Thank you... I've been looking on a way to reset to see if that resolves the issue.  My GPS stopped working this morning.  Fingers crossed.
