Ionic Not Updating Firmware

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My exercise app suddenly stopped working.  I tap the icon and it flashes green but won't load.  I checked on this forum and it said to make sure the newest udpate was installed so I hit the Update Racker bar and then "Update to Fitbit OS 3.0".  My iphone searches for a wifi connection and keeps telling me it can't find one (I've tried at work and at home and in both places my phone is definitely connected to wifi.  I also tried updating using my Bluetooth in the car and the update would start and then fail.  And yes, my cellular data is turned on in the fitbit app.

Now I just tried the fitbit update again and I'm getting the message,  "Wi-fi firmware update failure. Use bluetooth."  I have been trying to get this to work for about 4 days.  This is maddening!!!!

Yeah would contact Tech Support and see if they can get it to work.  If not they should replace your device.

Really there is no need to suffer in Frustration - simply call Tech Support at 877-623-4997 and get your Ionic replaced right now while you can
Many have followed this straightforward advice and now have a replacement Ionic - we all should have “zero tolerance” for any defective Ionic

I just went through all the steps and still not working. My Ionic updates
fine but will not complete the new version download (which I'm assuming is
why my exercise app won't work). It now starts downloading, and downloads
for about an hour, my watch shows it gets about 1/2 through and then it
just quits. I have both my phone and my watch plugged in so its not a
power issue.
Also, after I reset the clock face, if I tap the exercise app, the clock
face goes out every time.

Side note....I paid to have my Pandora upgraded so I could use it with the
Ionic and it has never worked either.

For something so expensive, this is ridiculous!

UPDATE:

None of this has worked.  My watch starts the download and cuts off after it gets about halfway through.

Hello @CindyDawn, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have come back and I would like to apologize for the delay in the response. If you're still having trouble updating your Ionic, I would like to suggest you to set up your Ionic as a new device to reset the connection between the watch and your phone forcing the update to finish. Note that all the information already in your account will not be deleted.

To set up your Ionic as a new device:

  1. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device.
  2. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
  3. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
  4. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.
  5. When a pop-up appears asking you to Pair your tracker to your device, tap on Pair and continue.

Now, when it comes to the issue you're experiencing with Pandora stations. First of all, I would like to suggest you to restart your Ionic by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen and double check you're following these steps to download the stations.

If your Ionic is still unable to download stations plug your watch into the charger. Stations download automatically when the watch is charging and in range of your Wi-Fi network, or tap Force Sync Now in the Fitbit app to add the stations to your watch.

If the issue persists, please try the following:

  1. Restart the Ionic once again
  2. Restart your phone
  3. Plug in Ionic to its charger station
  4. Un-link your Pandora Account by going to Account > Ionic > Media > Pandora
  5. Log out / log in from the Fitbit app.
  6. Re-link your Pandora Account
  7. Tap on Account > Ionic > WiFi Settings > Manage Wi-Fi Networks to select your Wi-Fi network (if a network is listed as already connected, remove it and then re-add it and make sure it's the same Wi-Fi network that your phone is connected to)
  8. On Ionic, go to and tap the Music app
  9. Tap the Transfer Music button (once it's complete you'll hear/feel a buzz) the button will read Transfer Music (This will tell you for sure that your watch is connected to the same network as the phone/app)
  10. Next, In the Fitbit app, tap on Media tile and tap on "Pandora (manage settings)" and select the radio station(s) you want to download
  11. Perform a "Force Sync Now" job
  12. On Ionic, open up the Pandora app, you should see the message, Updating Stations... Download will continue in background if you leave app.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.
