My Ionic is awesome....BUT....about a month ago I was out on a 3.1 mile run (as a fairly new runner, I depend heavily on the live pace the watch offers) and about the 1.75 mile mark it decided to stop tracking my run. I just stopped with no warning. Then, yesterday I was running an offical 5k race, and at about the 2 mile mark it did it again.....except this time the watch shut off completely (it was fully charged before the race). I had to wait to get home and put it on the charger for the watch to come on again (and even then it still had 82% battery life). Then this morning my run from yesterday showed up in my Fitbit app and it said I ran 2.01 miles (the point at which it stopped working) in 22 hours and 18 minutes. I'm no speed demon, but I assure you it does not take me THAT long to run 3.1 miles, much less 2.
Anyone else experiencing this problem? Something I'm doing wrong? Suggestions?

I have the same issue, been on 3 runs with my Fitbit and on two of them it just stopped mid-run. The data is saved and recorded but it stopped for no reason.

Interesting, I have had my watch about a week now. Other than tracking my heart rate about at 30-40 bpm above the actual value during a run, I was going to live with it. It seems to track fine when sitting, walking, and sleeping. Anyway, no big deal until yesterday, suddenly it just stopped tracking the run for no reason. My display is set to always on during a run, so i glanced down and only the exercise icon was there. Had to restart (lost over a mile of tracking). I continued another mile and it did it again. I restarted it again and made it home. Checked battery when i got home, it was at 56%. This sort of thing is a deal breaker for me. I will go back to Garmin if this keeps up. Look forward to any input on addressing this critical error. Otherwise, I think I have 30 days to send it back.

I just finished my afternoon run and my Fitbit Ionic just stopped on it's own. It didn't save more than a few dozen steps. I didn't notice until I was finished and wanted to end the exercise. This doesn't make happy with only 5 days with this new Fitbit.

If your ionic is shutting down while you are tracking a run, (or having any other problems: syncing, tracking sleep, connecting to Bluetooth devices, ect.) you should try going into the settings app, select about, and then select shut down. Confirm the shut down, and press any button to turn it back on.
Hope this helps!!

I have the same issue. It doesn't happen every time, but once every other week or so. It happens in Run, Walk, Swim, Elliptical and Workout. I often don't notice it until it's been "off" for at least a few minutes or until the end of my workout as I'm not always looking at my watch during the workout, especially while swimming.

I'm way past my return window. 😞 Otherwise I would be returning for a Garmin.

So did you return it directly to Fitbit and they gave you a refund?

This just happened to me for the first time today. I was on a run and it stopped tracking after a mile. The auto-tracking picked up pretty quickly and tracked the rest of the run, but it shows up as two separate runs (and I'm sure I lost a bit in the transition). A little while later, my Ionic shutdown and I had to plug it in to get it to turn back on (and the battery was at 56%). Has this continued to happen to you? I've loved my Ionic so far (have had it for a month or two), and I'm hoping this was a one-time fluke.

It happened to me a couple times the first month I had it but since then it has worked without issue. I pay close attention to it while I'm walking or running to make sure it's tracking and that's a little annoying but I don't dare fall out of the habit in case it stops. Otherwise I've enjoyed it.

Don't worry it will happen again. Return it before 30 days. Go Garmin. Avoid the frustration. I know the display is quite enticing. Gotta make a choice. Form or function. I had a hard time letting go since I loved the display but the function killed it for me. Can't have a GPS watch just quit in the middle of a run with battery remaining.

Just had the same thing happen to me. This issue had to be introduced by a firmware update because it only started happening in the last month or two.

Also had this problem once last week. After 700m it stoped tracking and I had to turn on my app again.
So now before each run I always reboot my ionic. So far this was helpful. Not that I'm happy with such outcome - devs should definitely solve this issue.

Hi Sharon. Which Garmin did you get? I'm looking at the Fenix 3 to replace my Surge. My surge swipe screen hasn't worked in a few weeks. I've re-started it about a dozen times, with no results. The feature I like about the Fenix 3 is that it doesn't have a touch screen to go out like most of the Fitbit complaints I have read.

Happened again to me today. .5 miles into the run, right at the first auto split, the watch vibrates and then stops tracking and goes back to the main menu. Very frustrating and it always happens when a split gets recorded. Fitbit please fix this - it is getting ridiculous. I have never seen a device with so many bugs for this long. Heart rate, GPS, exercise recording just stopping. I get there are always bugs with new devices but the length of time that these bugs remain unresolved is just crazy. Had a garmin vivoactive hr before this and never had these kinds of issues. Yes they had bugs but they were never remained unresolved for this long. I like the watch and the battery life but if it isn’t reliable for its one mission in life - fitness- why bother.
