My brand new ionic is adding fake steps. It has happend 3 days in a row now.
It happens after my daily morning walk updates in the app. From 5000 to 10000 extra steps. The extra steps show both at the watch display and in the app, but not in the fitbit challenges I am attending.
Have turned it off and on again.
What is wrong with it and how can i fix it? It is messing up all my stats!

Hey there @Varebil, thanks for stopping by! While reading your post I was wondering if by any chance you haven't manually logged activities? Typically, your steps will be recalculated if you manually log an activity as the manually logged activity takes precedence over the steps you tracked while wearing your tracker at that point in time. For example, if I am wearing my tracker and walking and I reach 10,000 steps, then I go to the computer and manually log an activity that starts and ends at that point in time for say 1 hour, Fitbit will calculate how many steps you took and it may bring my step count to something below or beyond 10,000 steps. To clarify, activities should only be manually logged when you forget to wear your Fitbit.
In regards to challenges, at this time, only steps from your Fitbit device or MobileTrack count towards a challenge. That means manually logged activities and activities tracked through any third-party apps aren't included in your challenge total.
Based on the information I provided, is the reason why I guessed there're manually activities. Would you mind checking that?
I'll be around, keep me posted!

Thanks for responding!
I never manually log anything on fitbit as I never forget to use it.
I have had fitbit devices since 2012, first fitbit one, then charge2, Blaze and now Ionic. Have never had this problem before.
It bums me out cause I have worn a fitbit device constantly for 1.5 years and I really like to be able to look back at graphs ect but now my stats gets f*ed up.
Dont misunderstand, I would not like the extra fake steps to be added to the challenges, it was just information.
It turns out these extra steps are really demotivating cause I have no idea troughout the day how Im really doing..

I am also having this problem. It appears to occur about an hour after my workout. The device will log my steps during my workout and then about an hour later my watch will randomly buzz while I'm sitting at my desk to let me know that I have 10,000 steps. I'll look at the steps tracker right after it buzzes and it will actually be over 11,000 steps. I know how many total steps I had after my workout and when I add the approximate steps from my workout the total will be very similar. I feel like the device is counting my workout steps twice...once during the workout and then again about an hour later.

I’m having the same issue! I go for a run then later it added the same run and steps again!

I am also having this issue. On Sunday I did a 4 mile run and had somewhere around 9900 steps. Then suddenly a little later the Ionic buzzed and said I had 7000 steps over my 10,000 goal. I looked down and I had nearly 18000 steps. Then it kept adding steps even though I was very stationary. Last night, I did a 3.5 mile run and when I was nearly finished I hit my 10,000 mark. This would be accurate But later that evening, I was suddenly at 18000 steps again! The only thing I did was mow for 25 minutes...not 8000 steps worth.
Any help?

This is also happening to me. Fitbit Ionic user. About an hour or two after my morning run, it randomly adds another, separate and distinct run on its own. Sometimes it adds a run that apparently occurred at 4am while I was sleeping. Either way, my step count will be approximately 13,000 after my normal morning run....then a few hours later bam....I'm at 20,000 because it added a new run sometime earlier in the morning (always earlier than my real run). I have been deleting this additional workout and my step count returns to normal....but why is it being added at all Fitbit? Please fix this.

ImImrry to hear it. I am now wearing my 3rd Ionic, after having this problem with my two first. Luckily in Norway where I bought the first one it is quite easy to get new items if the one you bought has any trouble that is not caused by the buyer.
I still have no idea why the extra steps were added to my first 2 ionics, and seems like the helpdesk Tstore where I bought them is just as clueless as myself.

This just happened to me today. I went for a run on the treadmill, and I should be around 12,000 to 13,000 steps for the day by my tracker is showing 26,000! Have not noticed it do this before. It did a reset, but still shows over 26,000.
