Is no one else having issues with the band that comes with the ionic. I like the device, I hate the band. It comes with large band attached, and that is what I used day one. Day 2, switched to small band which is what I should have. The band has detached from the face 7 time in 4 waking hours and once while wearing to bed. Finally had to use one side of large band and one of small to keep the small part from detaching. Plus, have very sore finger from having to jam the end piece in multiple times. Who thought this was a good band design? There is no way the two interlocking pieces of the band will ever come apart, but they will sure detach from the face.

If you look at the bottom of the band make sure there tab pops back out. If takes, at least on mine, a little force and wiggling to get it to pop. Once it does that it is attached. If not it will come right off (had this happen). The connection is a little too tight for it to cleanly small on its own from what I've seen.

I switched to the small band right after purchasing, and it has not detached once. Both ends snap tightly in place (you can hear a snap). Perhaps your small band is defective?

just got mine an hour ago, and I switched to small band as you did. Came apart when I was putting in on my wrist after setup. 😞 Got it back on but it still gives when I tug on it.

No matter how much I wiggle my small band, it will not click into place and the tab remains in rather than popping out like it does when it was not connected... please help! @CarlosCFitbit

I am a longtime user of Fit bit starting with Flex, Charge HR and Charge 2 i got my Fitbit Ionic today and changed the strap since then i have tried all the solutions offered the strap falls off i saw the video tutorial from Fitbit which is no use since what they show is the only way anyone can change the strap. I have a feeling it is a design flaw which needs to be rectified Fitbit please find a permanent solution. This problem is with the larger strap the tab on the larger one refuses to pop out to hold the strap in place even after 10 attempts finally i gave up and changed back to the smaller strap which fits after a few attempts .

I am having the same issue. I've had it for two days and it detaches. I almost lost it in the mall. I am going to return it. It is so expensive compared to my charge 2 and not worth the price considering the band is defective.

I had issue with the ionic band. It would simply not lock properly. I tried both bands with no luck. I ended up sending it back.

@MFLitchfield stated it better than I could. I have three bands that I swap out with some regularity. I have an aftermarket stainless steel Milanese magnetic closure band that I use at work and other non-exercise times. I have the Fitbit sport band for exercise, and I occasionally use the stock band that came with the watch when working out in the yard, cutting wood, mowing, etc...
I really don't think it's a design flaw (since there are so many people it works great for) as much as it may be a rare manufacturing flaw, or possibly insufficient force in the application of the band, The key as @MFLitchfield stated is to ensure that you press hard enough to hear (and feel) the "click" or "snap". If you don't get that "click", the band will definitely separate from the watch (it happened to me twice before I finally caught on). I suspect that the folks here who are having difficulty with the band either (1) need to press the band even harder into the slot to get the desired "click" or snap, or (2) there could be a rare manufacturing defect in the band or in the watch on a handful of units that may be legitimately preventing good closure. I suggest that some of you try again with more deliberation or possibly another person who can exert more force. If that doesn't work, contact Fitbit support (or the band manufacturer if after-market) to determine if your particular unity does indeed have a manufacturing defect.

I could not get the bands to stay latched. Like few others, it kept on coming off. I think it would be a faulty unit or systematic issue.
12/26/2017 (update) - I returned the watch and got a new one in exchange. The new one came with band attached. I haven't had any issue on the replacement unit so far. I have not tried to change the band. I am afraid of it not latching/locking correctly.

I just got the Fitbit iconic for Christmas but I am thinking am returning and getting Apple Watch because the small band keeps snapping off. This watch is pretty pricey to risk losing it day one because of the band. Anybody else have a solution to the band problem?

I had the same problem! Another user posted a decent solution which is to wiggle the band until the “tab” “pops up”. That seems to hold the band in place!
