Ionic doesn't turn on after shutting it down

Just got this watch for Father's Day and been a pain in the butt with sync issues and powering issues.  I shut it down through the functions Settings/About/Shut Down with the hopes of starting it back up and re-syncing to clean up any issues.  There has not been one series of button pushes, even the "hard reset" that brings it to life.  Out of shear circumstance, I dropped it about 6 inches onto the kitchen countertop I was standing over and viola, the Fitbit icon comes on the screen and I have to go through a firmware update to return it to function as it should.  That was yesterday.  Today, it did the same thing.  I'm going through the process of updating and this is time consuming.  I don't want to have to do this regularly.  Any suggestions??
