So I just bought a new Fitbit Ionic. I did the usual—I fully charged it, got the desktop app, hooked the watch up to my PC with the USB charger and did the setup process through the desktop app. Everything went fine. I'm able to sync it via blu-tooth, put in the 4-digit pin to connect it to my internet and all that good stuff. I complete that entire process, check my watch and, hey look—the screen on the watch is still the one asking me to set it up...
On the desktop app, the Ionic is listed and everything. When I press the sync button, the watch responds to it by having a green checkmark show up on its screen. But it goes right back to the screen telling me that I need to set it up, even though I already did!.
Dude, I've tried removing the Ionic and doing the set up again. Multiple times. Same problem! I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the app. Multiple times. The problem persists! I've even restarting my computer itself a few times and that didn't really do much. I don't know if the issue is with the watch itself or the stupid app, but I'm kind of leaning towards the latter—sometimes, aspects of the app just outright doesn't work right (such as it having trouble finding the watch at times during setup, even though it have no problems doing it any other time) and the only way to fix it is to either restart the app itself or my computer. And yes, my computer is up to date.
Speaking of being up-to-date—I figured this may be a firmware issue for the Ionic. Because after my many attempts going through the setup process, not once did it do any kind of firmware update. I notice a function in the app called "Device Lock" and under it, it says "Pending". I press on that to see what's it about and it basically tells me that I can't use the feature because because my Fitbit device's firmware is out of date and I have to get the latest software update. "So it's a firmware issue," I figured.
However, upon going to the "Help" tab and pressing "Check For Ionic Update," it tells me that my Ionic is, in fact, "Up To Date!" So which is it!?
I've been checking through this community forum for answer and going through all of the troubleshooting/help section of the website. Nothing seems to be the solution I'm looking for. This is extremely irritating! I've been at this for two days now!
Like, dude, this shouldn't be rocket science! Do I have to just delete everything and start over from scratch at this point? I just want to look down at my wrist and tell the time!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @FBSFD.
Thanks for the details shared in your post and for already trying to resolve the issue. I am sorry to hear about the frustration this situation has caused. If your watch doesn't have the latest firmware since you've just paired the device, it should show up an update 2-3 days after the setup. I recommend pairing your watch to your Fitbit account, you can confirm the steps in How do I set up my Fitbit device? Have you tried to use a compatible iPhone, iPad, or Android phone to set up your watch?
Hope this helps.

I went though everything you describe, down to the Device Lock message. Mine also says the firmware is up to date. Except it's version 20.16.23 and during two chat sessions with people at Fitbit, I was told that the latest is 27.72.1.9 and I have to wait 24 to 48 hours for some magic to occur that will enable me to do the update. I'll check back after a few days and let you know what happens.

Update.
I borrowed an iPad and it all worked, including updating the firmware. I can understand that there are not many of us that don't have an iPhone or Android phone (I have an old Nokia Windows phone), but is it so hard to make a Windows app that works?

I did that set up troubleshoot numerous times. Nothing is working. The thing is, I have it pair up to the account. The Ionic shows up on the profile no problem. The issue is, the watch itself goes right back to the screen asking for it to be set up. I'll give it a few more days and see if the update pops up by then.

Yeah, I don't have an Apple device, unfortunately. But it is nice to hear that someone got a resolve to a similar issue. I'll wait a few more days and see if this update actually does show up. If that's not the case, I'll just have to seek out other options 😞
