Ionic keeps buzzing without showing notification

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Over the past few days, my Ionic keeps buzzing to tell me that I have no new notifications. I have tried a factory reset, but this doesn't solve the issue. I've tried a number of help-related things, like mucking with Bluetooth, and notifications, and all of that, but nothing seems to be a permanent fix.

Possibly related, the back (left) button only occasionally functions as it is supposed to. I can reboot to "go back", but I can't simply go back.

Thanks for taking a break from stepping @andymay, welcome! Thanks for trying the factory reset on  your Ionic and for all the steps that you've tried to help your Ionic to get notifications again.

Since your Ionic keeps buzzing, we might have to confirm if its hardware is having issue; same thing with the left button. You can try the next steps to troubleshoot the issue you're having with your messages, but if this doesn't help we might have to get in touch with our support team:

Please check the requirements first:

  • Phone should be a compatible device check our list of compatible devices
  • The phone must be bonded with their device
  • Bluetooth service must be turned on
  • For Android phones: to help improve the delivery, go to Notifications and make sure Enable Notification Widget is on.
  • If you recently updated the Fitbit app, reboot your mobile device and try setting up notifications again.
  • Make sure the Do Not Disturb setting on your mobile device is turned off because it prevents the device from sending notifications to your device.

If you aren't receiving notifications, try these steps:

1. Turn off Bluetooth.
2. Force quit the Fitbit app.
3. Turn on Bluetooth.
4. Open the Fitbit app, which will initiate a sync with your device. After syncing, you should receive notifications.

If these steps didn’t work, try restarting your device and then turning notifications off and back on:

1. Restart your device.
2. Turn off notifications: In the Fitbit app under Account (upper right corner), tap Notifications. Tap the three dots in the top right and choose Disable Notifications.
3. Reboot your mobile device.
4. In the Fitbit app under Account (upper right corner), tap Notifications > turn on the notifications you want to receive.

If you're still not receiving notifications, set up notifications again:

1. Disconnect ("unpair") your device in your mobile device's Bluetooth settings. The instructions differ by device, but in most cases: Tap Settings > Bluetooth and find your tracker in the list of paired devices.
2. Open the Fitbit app under Account (upper right corner), Tap Forget or Forget Device to unpair your device.
3. Reboot your mobile device.
4. In the Fitbit app under Account (upper right corner), tap Notifications > turn on the notifications you want to receive.

In case of having an Android phone, also check your phone Permissions and leave location on to keep syncing with your phone, for more info check those suggestions from @ErickFitbit

Let me know how this goes! Smiley Happy

Thanks for the reply, and I appreciate your thorough advice. I had been using this Ionic with an iPhone 5S starting in January 2018, and then with an iPhone XR since December 2018. My iPhone has iOS version 12.2 and I have version 2.92 of the Fitbit mobile app.

To clarify the original subject line again, my Ionic was literally buzzing and giving me the notification "Nothing new here". I was also receiving actual notifications (messages, calendar).

The good news is that these issues seem to have gone away overnight. The bad news is that today, my Ionic is continually restarting itself with no user input, which makes interacting with the Ionic using the mobile app very difficult. I also have been receiving a "Clock Error - try another clock" message periodically throughout the day today.

I am trying another factory reset to see if this can help mitigate anything.

Another factory reset did not solve the new, continually restarting issue

Did you find a solution to this problem? Mine is also doing the same thing

My Ionic started doing this a few days ago. It has done it in the middle of the night and today in the middle of a run. I couldn't get it off of the notifications screen, had no information for the second half of the run and lost all data about the run. Any solutions?

Yes and no. I contacted the Twitter support, and long story short, they think it’s a hardware problem, and I’m out of warranty, so they’re offering me a discount on a new one. There are at least 4 similar cases (me, you, one of my friends with an Ionic, the commenter below), so it seems to be a systemic problem...

Thanks for the information. I assumed I couldn't be the only person having the problem but it's still reassuring to hear about other people with the exact same issue. I'm doing the factory reset now. I'll see if that helps. I was annoyed by the constant buzzing but, then more bothered by it being stuck on the notifications screen.

Count me in, back button doesn't work, all the buzzing to tell me that there is "Nothing new here," and all I've done is nothing that I haven't since January. Wondrous thing, technology...Done the restart, the reset, the off and on again...

Hey @DaygloViking nice to see you on the Community Forums again. In your case I's recommend checking the suggested steps above including the Fitbit requirements. What model of phone are you using?

I'll be around.
