My ionic started only charing with the cable oriented one way. IOW, if when the cable was attached it didn't start charging I would just reverse it.
Then it got to the point where I had to lightly move the cable around to find the 'charge spot. Then that started getting harder and harder to find.
Now I just can't get it to start charging.
I have ensured that there is no dirt/buildup in the channels of the mating surfaces.
Does anyone know what I can try next?

Hello @gregbartlett thanks for bringing this to my attention. let me give you a hand with your charging concern and a warm welcome to our Community Forums.
Certainly, this is not the way we designed our Ionic to take charge, thanks for ensuring that there is no dirt in the golden contacts. If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check our help article: Why isn't my battery charging on my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes. Such article includes a restart process which can be really helpful for your difficulties. Also, let me know if you have access to another charging cable so we ca see if the root cause of this situation is the charging cable as itself or the golden contacts of your device.
Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be here.
