I have the ionic, and i'm having issues with it not accurately counting my steps. I can count my steps myself and look at my watch and its not even moving. then next thing i know I go from 100 steps to 109 steps and i know I have walked more than that. I had the blaze and the steps are accurate. I have rebooted the Ionic as of today to see if there is a difference. Has anyone else had this issue?

My iconic count steps even when I am not walking and travelling by CAB. Today I had hardly walk 200 steps but just now its showing 1200 steps.
I keep on looking at my watch and was tracking that steps count was increasing automatically while I was riding a CAB.
Whats the use if so expensive watch does not provide right stats...

I NEVER got extra steps - my issues were less steps! I walk the same location and amount of time that I did with my old fitbit charge HR but it is about half the amount of steps on the IONIC. I've taken to testing how many steps before I start walking, count steps while I'm walking, and then checking the fitbit. It sure deflates my ego not to see the higher number of steps. I get motivated when I see the numbers go up and I keep trying to get higher numbers each day.

I updated my Ionic to the latest FitBit OS this morning and the first thing that it asked me to do was all the unit to "calibrate" itself. We'll see if that nets any positive changes to the lack of accuracy.

my fitbit updated a couple of days ago and I didn't get a "calibrate" message. What version did you upgrade to?

It flashed the OS version on the screen but I can't find anywhere where it references an "OS Version" on either the phone or the App. The only version info I get on the watch is that it's now version 27.32.10.20. I hope that helps.
I'm also trying the "shut down" suggestion - can't see how it'd hurt at this point but seems extremely unlikely to do anything.

Mine just updated yesterday and recalibrated. I will see how things look today. As of yesterday, it only counted about a third to a half of my steps. It accurately records when I am "exercise" walking but does not record an active day accurately such as doing yard work, house work, running errands, or being on my feet walking at work with stuff in my hands.

Today experience:
At morning default had 40-50 steps like yesterday (day before yesterday i did not wore watch while sleeping while yesterday I did) it did not start with 0.
Staircase: yesterday i climbed only 1 floor while watch was showing 7 floor. Today I did not climbed any floor while watch is showing 4 floor.
Even if you dont wear this watch Calorie burn keeps on increasing automatically.
Steps count varies very much than actual steps walked
In short the reason for which product have bought is not fulfilled.
Personal recommendation: Dont buy this till all the software problem get fixed

Similar to what @TeacherSarah is describing my issue doesn't seem to be one of actually tracking exercise but rather the Ionic missing steps that are taking during routine. I'd argue that even when exercising it's off, but not as badly. I did a few tests yesterday after both the calibration and shut-down sequences and the results are basically the same as I was seeing before. On longer (100+) straight runs of steps the unit is off by 10-15%. It still misses entire smaller "blips" of steps when I move around very briefly.
Bottom line - pretty disappointing and gives me zero confidence that they'll ever get this corrected and this will be my last FitBit product when it needs replacing.

Hello everyone! Thanks for your participation on this thread regarding Ionic not counting steps correctly.
If you haven't done already, please update Ionic to its latest version (version 32.10.20) and check if the the issue persists.
Other things you can try:
If the issue persists you may like to try a factory reset. Note that this will erase all apps, music, and clock faces you have installed. To do this:
Hope this helps. Please try this out and let me know how it goes!

Just upgraded to the ionic 4 days ago now I only show 403 steps. I've tried a reset but no luck still sitting at 403 steps. Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately, this seems to be hardware related and no fix is currently in sight (no matter what Fitbit support reps might be telling you)
I have tested two Ionics on the same wrist for comparison, and on a 6.5 km walk, both had counted too few steps, one significantly worse than the other.
On the exact same distance in opposite direction again similar with one Ionic counting less than the other and both still counting too few steps compared with a more exact pedometer.
Software updates so far did not help, resets and all other suggestions did not either.
However there was a lucky guy around here whose Ionic was point accurate, so unless you are equally lucky getting good hardware, there is little you could do on your side about it besides replacing your watches until you find a good one.

I am on my second fitbit IONIC and still have the same problems with the steps not being corrected correctly. It is a waste of $300 for just having a watch.

That lucky guy should purchase a lottery ticket because he is the only person saying the steps are accurate.
