So last night after being prompted for the update, I chose to install it over wifi while plugging in the device on charge, only to notice a black screen later. Tried troubleshooting over the phone with an agent, but no luck. She said I can have 25% off on a new device, which still costs roughly 250 dollars! I asked her if there's any repair facility instead, but turns out, Fitbit just wants me to cough up 200 dollars every now and then! Is that the business model?!

Yep.... mine is completely bricked now after the latest update. Tried everything. No joy ! As I am no longer in warranty I guess I will have to buy a new fitness watch.
