Ionic screen not showing numbers

New and upsetting behavior on my Ionic after installing the new watch face/updating.  When I go to unlock my watch with the PIN, I see the little dots but...no numbers.  When I press the approximate spot on the watch face, I see a white square.  Luckily I remember my PIN well enough via position but it's odd.  Even worse, when I go to the gear for Settings--in an effort to reset my watch, etc--I just get a series of horizontal lines and no text.  Is there another way to reset the watch?  Anyone else having this issue?  It seems like every single time one problem gets fixed it breaks 2 more things.  Very disappointed.  Tagging @YojanaFitbit  on this one; not sure if it's an update issue.  Thanks.

Tried that FIRST, ages ago. Does nothing.  Still can't see the options on settings menu to do a factory reset.  Still under warranty.  At this point it feels like FitBit is trying to run down the warranty clock.  Since I can't see the settings options to do a reset, how can I reset?  PS also tried poking around the blind system settings; now my Starbucks app won't work either.
