When worn by a marathoner during a marathon event, can the Ionic be tracked by friends/spectators so they can follow the runner’s progress?

I don't think this is supported by your tracker, but there's established methods out there that use your phone. This is is part of the information package for my upcoming race:
We are pleased to share Live Runner/Participant Tracking for the Ocean State Rhode Races is available in the RaceJoy mobile app! Participants must carry their phone and activate tracking within 30 minutes of the race start. You can learn more at racejoy dot com.
As good as this sounds, I don't anticipate racing with my phone on me.

I have tried to get this sort of system going on my Surge, but couldn't find a way. You can do it with a smartphone or a car GPS tracker, but I can't see any marathon runner willing to carry this much extra weight. I'd like to have this feature every time I go for a ride, for security's sake. You can manually start an activity on most Fitbits, but any information from these doesn't transfer to your phone/computer until you complete the event and then sync. But if you are carrying your phone, there are tons of apps that can do what you want.

Thanks for your response. I just ran the Ventura Marathon this past Sunday (10/21/18) and they have RaceJoy set up there. However, I would never carry a smartphone (which is required) for 26.2 miles in order to be tracked. I contacted RaceJoy and asked about their system tracking me if I wore an Apple Watch Series 4, and they said they’re working on it and maybe next year. Fitbit should jump on this and figure out a way to integrate spectator tracking before they lose out to Apple.

Did your ionic stay connected and accurate through the entire 26.2?
