Ionic stopped working after update

I’d had an update available for a while but resisted to update as I’m sure my last Ionic was ruined by an update.

Anyway, I finally updated my Ionic and instantly it became slow, laggy and unresponsive. I contacted FitBit help who advised on various resets, back to factory settings, update the app etc. I did all this and within 2 hours the screen is now completely blank and the watch totally unresponsive. Watch completely broke.

FitBits response was to offer me a discount if I buy another. My watch was working perfectly until their update. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a sales tactic from FitBit to rid older models from circulation?

Can anyone advise how I might be able to fix a completely unresponsive Ionic?

The update bricked thousands of devices, not just Ionics but Charges and Versas,

According to fitbits warranty they are not responsible for any software, this includes firmware, that you the user choose to install.

Even if it is their own recommended software or firmware.

They haven't fixed the issues with their software nor released an update to reinstall an older version. Fitbit also haven't admitted they released bad software that has ruined peoples property.

They removed all of the update threads, pages and pages of issues with the update, from the forums of the affects models and have effectively brushed it under the carpet to hide how bad their update is and insufficient warranty and clauses works to their benefit.

All in all your Ionic is probably toast and your only option, if you really think fitbit is worth it, is to shell out for a newer model.  The discount really doesn't have enough value considering that fitbit consider them disposable after a year so they must cost peanuts to produce in masse.

Or go for a garmin or apple watch, most people seem happiest with that choice.

My ionic has also done the same thing since the fitbit update. I wish I had never updated it as it was working just fine before… so frustrated with Fitbit… it’s my 2nd one that an update has ruined. Not going to purchase another model. Looking at Garmin or Apple watches next.  Our whole family has fitbits but having to replace them every 2 years or less is ridiculous!

Hapened to me a year ago.  I called in and tech support tried to sell me another watch with a 10% discount for my troubles.  Then a press hard on the guy that it wS their software update that damaged the watch.  So after 45 minutes on the phone he suggests hard rebooting the watch that will delete all data on the watch.  I tried it.  The screen started working again. It's worked fine since then BUT I keep getting notices that a new firmware is available that I ignore.

I think unnecessary software updates are a scam, at least by this company.

I’ve just gone Garmin, the Fenix 6 pro is currently on offer. My kids also have FitBits but they won’t be getting another and I won’t buy FitBit for myself again.

The hard reboot finished mine off completely, the screen started getting dimmer and dimmer and 2 hours later totally gone off and hasn’t been back on since. Just gone Garmin, it’s a shame as I liked my FitBit but how that get away with this amazes me; good watches destroyed by their updates.
