I use my fitbit ionic for dingy sailing. I log it as a bike ride because that gives me the data I want to see - lines sailed, distance covered, speed etc. Yesterday in a 1.5 hour race the GPS stopped tracking me after about 20 minutes. I cover my fitbit with a wristband to protect it from damage so I didn't do anything to change the mode or stop the exercise. From the TCX file heartrate continued to be tracked for the full duration, so the exercise didn't pause. From what I can see the GPS stopped roughly where I had a capsize. Any ideas on why the GPS data would stop? Is it related to the capsize, or maybe the wet wristband then creates an issue? And if it is what would be the best way to get the GPS working again in that situation? (Apart from not capsizing in the first place...)
