Ionic stops tracking exercises during workout

Lately my Ionic has stopped tracking exercises during my workout. The data during the exercise that is being tracked before it stops isn't logged as a exercise. This starting happening after the last update. I have reset the tracker a few times and even turned it off and back on again, still does it.

Hello @JasonMichael,

Sorry to hear your having problems.  I know you have probably done this, but please try it again (https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Ionic/Resetting-Your-Ionic/m-p/2648298#M48727).  Please let me know exactlly what happens, should it happen again (example: is the Exercise just stopping or is the Ionic going into a Restart?  Please post back if your problem continues.

Hope this helps and Keep on STEPPING!

I have tried that a few times. I'll set it for a exercise and a few minutes into the workout it stops. I'll look down and its on the home screen (watch face). I'll start it again, sometimes it will stop again, sometimes it won't. When I sync the Ionic and check my logs, the exercises where it stopped are not logged.

I know my regular route in the evening takes approximately 3500 steps. Tonight, I checked about halfway and it had registered only 1000. Then it dropped 500! about a minute later. Now my entire day's total should be around 6000 but I am only at 3800.

I bought this Ionic on April 6.

Hello @JasonMichael,

The Fitbit OS will bring you back to the Clock Face if the Exercise has not "Started".  Example, if I am in the Exercise Settings and stay there, but don't do anything, the OS will bring me back to the Clock Face after about 2-3 minutes.  However, once you START the Exercise this should NOT be happening and the Ionic should be locked into the Exercise.  Please confirm that you are pressing the Bottom Right button to START the Exercise.

Hello @AntoniaZ,

Sorry to hear you are having problems!  I would suggest you do a Restart (https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Ionic/Resetting-Your-Ionic/m-p/2648298#M48727) on your Ionic.  This should resolve any issues.  If it doesn't, please post back.

The exercise does start. I touch the bottom right button and it goes into the exercise and I see my heart rate and that's when I start my exercise.

Best Answer

Thanks I did that. But I won't know if it is accurately tracking until I get out and start serious stepping again. So not til tomorrow I guess.

Hello @JasonMichael,

And Restarting (Pressing the Left and Bottom Right buttons together until the Fitbit icon appears and releasing.  May need to be on any screen other than the Clock Face screen to do this), did NOT help, Correct?

Same happens with my watch. First I thougt that I accidentaly pressed some buttons while moving my wrist, but now I see that more people have this issue.

any suggestions?

Best Answer

I have the same issue. It just stops during a race or during workouts like Zumba or water aerobics. Sometimes it keeps going but I have to keep checking it!

Best Answer

I have the same issue and just posted another topic.  I thought for some reason it was due to it having a messed up heartbeat reading, but maybe not.

This really sucks because I upgraded from a Charge 2 and the one feature I use most is messed up of which this thing is built for.

I've contatced fitbit.  Unfortunately useless.  My ionic, on long bike rides, stops recording after +/-50 miles.  This happened a few weeks ago during a 153 mile ride, then this past weekend during a 100 mile ride.  It has happened multiple other times.  ALL I GET FROM FITBIT IS THAT IT IS BEING WORKED ON.  Very disappointing.  No timetable to fix.

Best Answer

Just had this happen on a bike ride yesterday. I was very shocked to look down at the home screen on my ionic during a bike ride. Not only am I having data / battery drain issues, now I can't even reliably track my activities. Sure would be nice to know that Fitbit has acknowledged the issue and will work to fix it.

Today I have been building fence from 8am until 4pm . I'm talking digging up a sprinkler line 2 feet deep and 30 feet long , and my $300 ionic decides to stop recording everything from about 10:20am until 3:45 pm. WTH is this ???  I have zero reading on calorie, heart rate, distance ,etc.  I was not in water nor was my hands in dirt, but I was sweating like a pig. This is the second time it's done this - the other time was on June 9,2018. I've had this fitbit sine it went live in beg October 2017. I charge it and clean it every evening . So now that ive busted my butt all day in 107 degree fitbit tells me I've burned 1400 calories (my cal burn is 2079). I was really looking forward to see if I beat my best calorie burn . Needless to say I'll be contacting cust service and will NOT ever buy another fitbit. Need to get this figured out ASAP

So I noticed this same issue when I workout usually on days that involve my wrist bending. Turns out if the power button and pause button is held down for even a second it'll return to the main menu and all of your progress will be deleted. I don't know if this is a bug or feature but it's really starting to become a problem for me. Haven't found a solution for this and I don't know if this is what's causing yalls issue but it's definitely what's causing mine.

Mine has dropped workouts 3 times this past week.  The first two times it completely turned off and was on the fitbit logo startup on the watch face.  Today it stopped my workout but didn't turn off.  I reported it Monday and all they told me was I was charging it wrong and recommended I charge on another outlet or USB in the computer.  I did that last night.  Today after it dropped it again I messaged back and referred to the case number they gave me Monday.  Now it's a "Fitbit knows there is a software problem that only affects certain Ionic users.  Please do a factory reset and it will be updated with a fix as soon as we develop one."  That's a big difference from a battery recharge suggestion to a "we know if and will fix it when we figure out what to do" solution.  $300.00 fitness tracker. Yeah. I miss my Surge.  It worked so well.
