Ionic syncing issues

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I have had my Ionic for 2 weeks now and still have troubles with syncing. Everyday. I open the app and will try to sync but it won't. I have to restart my watch, force stop the app, switch my bluetooth on and off a number of times before it will sync properly 😞 It usually takes around 15 minutes to get it to sync. Is there a way to fix this issue? It's starting to get frustrating.

@MattFitbit the problem isn't in following instructions posted in self-help. The problem is, all instructions so far do not work 🙂 What would you recommend in such case?

Status of my syncing..

Just updated to V2.62 of Android App, restarted the phone and the Fitbit App synced immediately after "looking" for about 20 seconds.. It also synced on awakening from a nights sleep again.

So, I have done nothing, maybe the update of some non-Fitbit Apps improved some Bluetooth interfaces.

I have definitely proved that low battery wasn't my problem last week. Posting that I have no issues isn't helping those that are having issues. My signature shows my environment so that may help.

I posted to quickly.. Sync errors as I was about to post.. Sucking battery out of the phone. Fitbit restart worked...  I will monitor again today.. including GPS data.

@SunsetRunnerI'm still testing for "lost data" and haven't had an issue yet..

My syncing has settled down to a restart of the Ionic first thing in the morning when it refuses to sync my overnight data. It just wheelies.... and sucks the phone battery 1%/minute.  Everything else is working as Fitbit advertise.

The data you are losing, is it the all day and or the planned exercise activities.?

I lost data only on the day that it would not sync. When I performed the
normal troubleshooting step of removing the Ionic temporarily from my
account, and I couldn't get it back on for ~3 days, that caused the data
loss.

Currently everything is working, however they just updated the android app,
and it usually gives me issues immediately after an update. We'll see
tomorrow, I'm done stepping for tonight.

@SunsetRunner Good to hear. I have had no issues with 2.62 and was going out shortly, but thunderstorm and flash flooding will prevent that.

I had problems with synchronization. With Galaxy S8. But not with another device, with Galaxy Tab S2. I've deleted the program from the Galaxy Tab. I only use Galaxy S8, since I have no synchronization problem. Opinion, does not like the clock if you run two places in the Fitbit application!

If someone runs 2 Fitbit apps at the same time. Do not be surprised that one of them is harder to synchronize with Ionic. Anyway, it is worth re-starting every 2 days. Sometimes the many notifications will be deleted .. (As it is on Android / IOS / PC / MAC on every device, so is the operating system on the clock, so it is 🙂

Fitbit Ionic , Huawei P20 PRO (.131 FW) Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 V2 (droid 8).

Hmmm.... You know, that might be an interesting thing. I have been having consistently recurring problems syncing my ionic but then again - I sync it through my home internet. I wonder if maybe Comcast is not playing nicely with fitbit?

So my problem seems to have been the hotel internet!!

I wonder if this is a server side issue at Fitbit as opposed to an issue with Bluetooth and the watch itself.

I am wondering that as well. I have never had a problem removing and re-adding my Ionic so it seems as if my phone can talk to it perfectly well over bluetooth. But as soon as I sync it, it has problems. I usually get about 3 days of syncing before it just seems to stop... And the weird thing is that it looks like it is syncing. The bar appears at the top of the screen, it goes from left to right, just never actually reports new steps or info.

I wonder if this might be either the network I am using (Comcast) or if it is fitbit's site perhaps overwhelmed with data...

I totally gave up on trying to even add my ionic to my laptop ap................so I went and figured I'd just download the ap onto my cell phone and use that for my ionic as well as my alta HR...........I have come to the conclusion that the win 10 fitbit ap is outdated which could have been my initial problem.  syncing both works well with my android system on my cell, can now even sync on my laptop............we'll see how long THAT lasts lol

I've been a loyal and happy FitBit customer for many years, but I honestly *hate* my Ionic. At least every other day (sometimes multiple times in a day in a given week), I have turn off bluetooth, close the app on my Android phone, force stop the app, open the app and tap the header message to have the FitBit app re-enable bluetooth on my Google Pixel to get syncing to work again. If I don't check at least once a day, I could go through several phone restarts over a week's time and still not sync at all.

Notifications on the Ionic are absolute garbage, too. The current problem I'm having is that if I try to change my apps that can send notifications to the Ionic, I am greeted by the initial "Turn on device notifications" screen, even though FitBit Notification Service is already allowed by my phone. But nothing gets past that screen. I've deleted the app cache, data, the app entirely, I've followed every step-by-step guide, I've reinstalled...I can't remember how many times. The app keeps turning "All-Day Sync" and "Always Connected" on even when I try to disable those features. Half the time, the Ionic info screen in the app tells me that the PIN is "Enabled", but when I tap that setting, the radio button marked "Disabled" is the one selected.

When the Ionic has worked, it's worked beautifully. But lately, that's been so few and far in-between (since I got my pre-order), I can't tell people fast enough to stay away from FitBit. I loathe this device and this app.

oh dear, hope I'm not going to experience what you're going through!!

I agree there are bugs - a ton of them - in this device!  comeone fitbit team, GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!

I lost count of the number of times I tried to install the ionic on my win 10 app.....all unsuccessful until I went about it through my cell phone

I think the most disappointing part about all of the Ionic bugs has been fitbit's (single) response: "Have you tried the steps in ...?" with a link to either another thread, or even the top of the thread people are commenting on.

Just letting us know that they've got issues they're working on for a firmware update, even without an ETA would go a LONG way to at least let us know they're listening. Heck, I'm a software developer, I'd help send them test logs.

But instead, it seems almost more likely that their support staff is just a bot posting the same step-by-step under different user names every few days. I've really lost a ton of faith in fitbit as a whole by this point. Now, I'm actually feeling bad for the people I've recommended them to in the past.

All of this sounds very very similar to issues I am having on the blaze. I had 15 months of happy motoring and then around 3 months ago I started having issues, syncing and losing GPRS connection when on a run. This is very annoying. I am doing a version of the "workround" that many of you are doing. It's so annoying. I don't know if fitbit are working on this or just trying to placate. I am thinking of ditching the fitbit altogeher for a Samsung smart watch. No way I would buy another fitbit now

I'm at the same point you are.  The only reason I got the Ionic was that my records were with Fitbit already.  The Surge was a disappointment as well.  Granted they solved the initial syncing problems in that product. However, initially the Surge was rated at 10 ATM water resistance\proof.  That was quickly proven false.  That spec is no longer anywhere on their website for the Surge.  The Surge would even fog from sweat.  Fitbit, thankfully, replace mine 2x. So I had a total of 3 Surges. All failed due to moisture problems.  The 2nd and 3rd I didn't shower with, it was all from just working out moisture.  It's too bad the QA process is awful with their products.  For what they cost, these should be high-end products.

Perhaps that's the cost of doing business with their HQ in San Francisco.

Ionic (27.32.10.20), Surge (Did not live up to 5 ATM Spec originally on tech spec), Samsung Galaxy S5, Moto G5 Plus

I haven't missed a sync on the Android since I updated to App V2.62.1.  I have also notice it has synced when I open the app and I don't have all day sync set.  Maybe Fitbit Connect is doing what it should do as it does with my Fitbit One.

I have no other issues....
