Ionic tracked data even when it was off

Hello. I'm new to fitness trackers, so this Ionic is kind of cool. I'm impressed with all the metrics it tracks or calculates. But there's a problem.

This morning I put my Ionic on and did the several touches and swipes to shut it down (under settings>>about). I rode my motor bike to work, took the elevator up (to a lower elevation than home), turned my Ionic back on, walked about 80 steps to my cubicle, and sat down.

The Ionic says I walked 1,600 steps, climbed 18 floors, and burned over 900 calories today (That's higher than base metabolism). That makes it fairly useless for calorie budgeting. Doesn't it?

What happened??? My Ionic was not still tracking when it was shut down, was it?

and

Why can't I just touch an easy to find short cut to prevent counting steps and floors?

Welcome back @SunsetRunner. Thanks for letting me know that you're new to the Fitbit family.

I appreciate the detailed information mentioned. It's pretty weird that your Ionic tracked information while it was shut down, usually this should work because it's turned off. I would like you to make sure your Ionic didn't turn on accidentally and that's why it was tracking data.

I would like you to turn it off again and take not of the steps that you have before turning it off. After this, turn it on and check if it tracked any data.

Regarding the extra data that you got, you can log driving to delete this information.

Also, you may want to vote for this idea: Add "Driving Mode" Feature to avoid erroneous steps/floors. Those suggestions are reviewed by our team and the status given is based in the Fitbit's plans.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Thank you. That idea to add a driving mode has been floating out there since October 2014. It has over 3000 supporters. How difficult could it be add a short cut to pause recording of steps and floors?

Some days I drive around several times. Some days I take more than half a dozen elevator rides. I did the "driving" edit once, after seeing your suggestion on another thread. It worked fine. But it is impractical for me to track all the things that move me around, so that I can edit what my activity tracker records.

After working at a computer all day, I'd rather be outside using my lungs and heart.

Thanks for getting back @SunsetRunner. Your feedback is appreciated, we're always striving to provide you with features that can help you reach your exercise goals.

Sorry to hear that logging driving isn't working for you at the moment. You may want to try turning off your watch while you're driving and this will avoid that you manually log the activity.

Let me know how it goes.
