Shows that I have messages but nothing there when I check. Have deleted Fitbit from phone and set it up again, shut phone completely off and turned back on. Nothing is working. Very frustrating.

HI, I am not overly familiar with the iPhone App but assume it is similiar to Android.  Have you set up notifications correctly on the phone app as there is now no option on the tracker itself?

 

The other reason could also be that since ios 13 was released, there has been an issue with receiving notifications at all.  This is due to a change that Apple made in how ios handles notifications and failed to inform anyone of the change!!  Fitbit are fully aware and working on a solution though.

I’ve had a Fitbit and an iPhone for years. It only stopped working this past week.
