After reading several reports on problems with the Ionic in water I would like to make sure that the Ionic is indeed waterproof before going swimming with it.

Mine died after being in the pool with it. No diving, nothing deeper than 2-3ft.
‘’Mine was bought on launch day so early model. They advertise 50m water resistance but I don’t buy it. Good luck.

Officially it is, as explained in this help file: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1598/
Given the millions that they sell there are bound to be some that have an issue but I don't believe they have ever stated what percentage fail. If you do have a problem though then you should be eligible for a replacement under warranty.

My first Ionic Fitbit died after swimming with it on. I was given a replacement. Not wanting to repeat what happened to the first Ionic, I swam with the watch-case [wrist bands removed], inside a water-proof, double-lock bag. Worked perfectly for the past 5-days. However, today the watch quit working again. No reason that I can see. Back to factory-reset. Currently, reinstall is not working. DO NOT SWIM UNLESS YOU HAVE WATER-PROOFED THE CASE!

Update on Swimming with my Fitbit Ionic: For the past number of months, I've been swimming, using the Exercise:Swim option, with no problems whatsoever! I'm totally ecstatic!
