My fitbit and mobile doesn't work very well. I use my work phone to sync all the time. But is it possible in the future to automatic sync over wifi. so you don't always have to grab your phone to sync the data to my fitbit account

@Endomorphius, presently the tracker can only be synced to your account via Bluetooth.  They may add that capability at some time in the future, but I suspect there would be great security risks to overcome before that ever happens.

@USAF-Larry I suspect you are wrong. You do realize the Fitbit app syncs to Fitbit servers over Wi-Fi? And the Fitbit app is running on mobile phones and computers. Really no difference between those devices, and your Ionic, from a security point-of-view.

I suspect its really about a) favoring Bluetooth Low Energy over Wi-Fi to minimize battery usage, and b) focusing Ionic software development on core features before adding support for Wi-Fi sync. I can think of several other reasons Fitbit might want to keep pushing BLE between mobile phone and Ionic.

@rvel, there was no mention in that post what "without my phone" means. Was it in an adjacent room within Bluetooth range, or where? Since the app does the syncing, it was somehow available.

I would be happy if the darn thing would just sync! Use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DSL, airwaves, pony express, freeway, or whatever! Just sync and stay syncing once and for all.

In the post there is mention about the fact that the phone had no internet connection available and that Bluetooth was off.

As Rich_Laue mentions in his response in that post:

@Rich_Laue wrote:

At best this would only be possible when the ionic is plugged in and charging. The wifi only gets turned on while charging, and at this time the apps and music will be updated.

I can also confirm that the Ionic and the Versa do sync with Wi-Fi when they're plugged into the charging cable and in range of a previously connected Wi-Fi network.

That's supposed to be there to update apps/playlists without compromising battery life on the tracker, but the activity data (from steps and all the way to sleep and exercise) syncs as well and I assume that the likelihood of this happening increases greatly when the watch doesn't really have anything to update.
