Language keeps reverting back to Dutch

My fitbit ionic keeps changing its language to Dutch.
I live in the Netherlands but need the UI in English.

When I select my location in the app (under my account, "Advanced Settings" and then "Select Locations"), it gives me the option of "nederland (engels)", which is exactly what I need as opposed to "nederland", which is another option it offers.

When I select this option everything is initially set to English on the ionic.

A bit later (anything from minutes up to a day or so) it changes the UI again into Dutch.
So I change it to another location, sync the ionic with my phone - which changes the language accordingly - and then back to "nederland (engels)" - which changes into English correctly again.
But after some time it goes back to Dutch again!

So this "nederlands (engels)" option doesn't seem to be working properly.

Also, I've seen some similar issues on other threads, but nothing since a couple of years ago, and they seemed to have been resolved then with firmware updates.

Help?

It's great to see you around @rvel. Thanks for the details mentioned and the troubleshooting you've tried to change the language.

I appreciate the research done prior posting. The language that your Ionic will have is the one that your phone has. I would like you to make sure that your Ionic is syncing and that your phone is set to English. You can learn more about it by checking this article: How do I change my language on Fitbit?

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Silvia, the phone is in English and the language in the ionic always
turns into Dutch (which is not my intention).
Furthermore, changing the location and syncing again does change the
language on the ionic, but the problem is that it reverts back after a
while.
So not sure if the behavior you mentioned is what it was designed to do,
but it is not happening.

Furthermore, according to the support article https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1536#tracker, changing the location in the account is the way I should be changing the ionic's language ("Note that your Fitbit device uses the same language that you use for your Fitbit account."), or am I missing something?

Thanks for getting back @rvel. Sorry for the delayed reply.

I appreciate the details mentioned and the troubleshooting tried. I was checking on the Community and there were some users that were experiencing the same, they solved it by setting their location to where they are in the Fitbit app and in their phone's settings.

I would like you to confirm that your phone's region is set to a country where English is the official language. After this, you need to change the Fitbit app's region to that one too. This will avoid that your Ionic changes the language.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Silvia,

I live in the Netherlands, I am an English speaker and my phone is in English.

There are two settings in the Fitbit profile for the Netherlands: Nederlands and Nederlands (Engels).

Nederland (Engels) means "Netherlands (English)".

I assume this option is meant for English speaking people in the Netherlands?

Perhaps you can explain what it is for then?

Rgds,

Ricardo

Thanks for getting back @rvel. Sorry for the delayed reply.

I'll be happy to clarify your question about Netherlands and Nederlands (Engels). Yes, as you mentioned Netherlands refers to English.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi,

No questions, just the remark that it doesn't work as expected.
I have everything set to English, the phone, the Fitbit profile location
("Nederland (engels)"), etc. and still it reverts back to Dutch.
I gave up and worked around this problem by simply setting the location to
"Europe" which keeps it in English.
I hope this "location" functionality has no practical use, otherwise this
would be a bummer! 🙂

Kind Regards,
Ricardo Veloso

Thanks for getting back @rvel. I appreciate that you report it.

I'm glad to hear that after you changed your location to Europe it set it to English. I'll make sure to report this to my team.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Hi Ricardo

I am based out of the Netherlands and have exactly the same problem as you described it.  After much frustration I also opted for the Europe selection to get English.  This works for a short while but unfortunately mine keep reverting back to Nederlands engels - which is not English.  Very frustrated and reading through your thread you obviously did not get a solution by Fitbit.

I gave up.

cheers

Hi,

In my case it stayed in English.

Have you got the automatic location on? I have it disabled...
