Measure steps while not using Ionic

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I use the Ionic for 4 days now. Every night I have around 1000 steps during sleep, not correct. Pols non dominant, normal sleep (not sensitive). I did a few resets, but no succes.

So I decided to not wear the Ionic last night to see what happens. When I looked this morning the Ionic displays 1010 steps!? How is this possible? Please help

There has been more people with this kind of problem.

In most cases the problem is some kind of Fan (airconditioning) that blows air over the watch, which gives air pressure differences and sometimes it has to do with vibrations of the watch on the desktop or other loation where it is lying.

Make sure that the location you put the watch down, has no airflow over it and no vibrations of some machine and try again.

There is a post for a suggested fix to this problem here, give it a vote if you think it's a good idea: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/No-tracking-when-charging-for-Ionic/idi-p/254515...

That option is only for charging.

Wearing it at night gets not solved by this option.

Yes that would only fix the steps whilst charging issue, with vibrations etc. that @elot mentioned, but it's a start and I think it would definitely be a good idea to implement.

As for the issue of steps counting whilst asleep, I often get between 5-20 steps whilst sleeping, due me turning over and moving around I guess. Over 1000 seems excessive though.

One thing you could try before seeking more technical help would be to change the tracker setting 'non-dominant' to 'dominant' even if you are not wearing it on your dominant wrist. The idea is that this would lessen the sensitivity of the watch and reduce over counting. What I have found when doing this though is that you may get some missed steps around the house, but the few that get added whilst asleep etc. make up for it, giving a rough average.

Sorry to hear your issues. Where was you charging the tracker? Are there any movements or vibrations that could be transferred to the tracker?

Also it may be good to put your vote to the suggestion mentioned earlier, to get Fitbit to stop the tracker recording steps whilst on charge. The more votes, the more chance of this issue being permanently fixed.

I voted, Thanks for your reaction 👍

I left the ionic downstars, in de livingroom. So no moving things, wind etc.

My faith in the watch is gone, that’s a sorry feeling
