I purchased an Ionic in August of 2018, as a replacement for a previous FitBit that had died 1 month past warranty, which had replaced one that also was just beyond warrant. Each time I purchased a newer more expensive model. Because I liked each product when its working, but I think this is the end for me. $400.00 for a 1 year disposable watch is just to much. I baby this unit, no showers, no swimming, no bangs or knocks, I am retired so walking is the hardest workout it gets. The unit was at 90% charge and I had just woke up this morning and was watching television and the screen went black. Tried all the button combinations, connected with the chat feature and had a nice chat with Nancy. She confirmed "I can see here that the Ionic last synced 42 minutes ago via your Android device with 90% battery". But like my 2 previous fitbit watches the purchase date is outside of the 12 month window so the offer 25% off a replacement purchase from the Fitbit site. Maybe there is another brand out there that has more longevity. Since reading some of the posts it appears that there is a reason that the warranty is 1 year, and purchasing from a 3rd party with an extended warranty might be the way to go on my next unit no matter what Manufacturer I end up with. So if there are people out there that have made a switch or have found a Fitbit that lasts let me know, as it appears I am going to have to shop for a new unit. Unless I hear back from the Supervisor who was busy at the time we were chatting.

Seems that all the units for me have done the same thing. The screen goes black and the sensors on the back go out. I am diligent in not letting the watches completely go dead. Usually between 25 -40 % I recharge. I was a 911 operator before retiring so it was not a construction enviroment it was in. So maybe it just could not handle the stress levels in my system. Sure wish I was one of the lucky ones that had a unit that lasted. I just strikes me odd that they expire so often just a month or so after the warranty. This post was to share info to those potential owners. It's quite possible that the watch will fail shortly after the warranty expires.

As crazy as it sounds I wish mine had malfunctioned sooner 🙂

Keep complaining here and on Facebook. I was 2 months over warranty, and eventually Fitbit have agreed to send me a new Ionic. I pointed out to them that I didnt sign up to be a Beta tester for their faulty updates, if they are going to brick devices while they figure out where the faults are, it should be on their dime so they should only roll out the firmware update on Ionics that are covered by the warranty until they get the bugs out of it.

Lain great point. I figured that not doing the update would be a risk, Only to discover the update may have killed the Ionic. The more I query the ionic on google the more I see people in the same position. It is terrible if Fibit is knowingly updating units and not warning us this could happen.

Why is the conversation between me and your employee on chat deleted again? Was there something wrong in that exchange?

Exactly. If a third party can sell them cheaper, that sends us a clear message about the manufacturer. They don't appear to care about the end user. Firing out updates that have the potential to damage the watch. No big deal if you are still under warranty. But those a day or more past 1 year get screwed. They should warn us that the update could potentially "fry" the watch.

Thank You. Here is hoping that your husband succeeds in getting a replacement. It's not like we are asking for a refund. Good Luck!

Exactly, if there is a 2yr warranty in Europe then what is the problem? Unless we are getting a different quality device.

They know EXACTLY what's going on and they don't wish to admit it. They should be replacing these watches since they caused the issue. Best way to handle is to never buy another fitbit item and spread the word about how awful their customer service is.

Well this guy is not buying another. I am testing a competitor device now. No more with the support I have got from them.

"The demands of running global business require that we enforce our warranty consistently."
Except that they dont!
You were a lot more polite than I was. You might want to snip out your phone number by the way;)

Congratulations! You never had an issue with your Fitbit! You want a medal for that? Because you've been blessed with a properly functioning watch, doesn't mean anyone who has a problem with theirs is their fault.
My 1st Ionic lasted all of a few painful hours before it croaked. How is it my fault that it died within a couple of hours?
I've had many crashes with my replacement. I've owned this watch since Memorial Day'19. My latest issue is I lost a week of data and had a total of 200 steps for the week. Yep, my fault too...My fault for paying an arm and a leg for this unreliable watch.
