Not receiving all notifications from an app (OnePlus 5T, Android 8.1, Life 360)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

First let me be clear that I am receiving timely notifications on my Ionic and I am receiving some types of notifications from the app in question just not all of them. I don't seem to have any sync issues.

My phone is a OnePlus 5T running Android and the latest update available putting the OS at v8.1.0.

The app in question is called Life360 and is a family tracking app. It makes notifications for events such as a family member completing a drive, checking in, sending a message, being involved in an accident and arriving or leaving preset places of interest. I receive all of these notifications on my phone and did so on my Android Wear OS 2.0 Huawei Watch 2 Classic that preceded my Ionic. The Life 360 team have done a great job of creating many notification types for granular control of what you want to see but I should add I have not edited the default notification settings. Here is a screen capture of their notification types as seen on my phone:

Life 360 notification types

I routinely receive notifications on my Ionic from the Driving category informing me a family member has finished a drive. I also get notifications covered by the In-App Messaging category but I do not get anything from the Place Alerts category which is the one I value most as it tells me when my family members arrive at places of interest we have setup. All of these notifications do appear on my phone.

Notice that the working “Driving” category and the non-working “Place Alerts” category are both set to the same importance level of urgent and when drilling down into them both have exactly the same settings:

I am therefore at a complete loss as to why my Ionic does not receive the Place Alerts.

Here is an example of alerts received on my phone. Note that my Ionic received the “drive complete” notification but not the “arrived at” alert. I should point out that while these two alerts are closely timed and potentially could interfere with one another place alerts can be and are routinely triggered without an accompanying drive complete alert (someone drives past a place without stopping) and these solo place alerts aren’t received either.

As for my Ionic configuration I have All Day Sync and Always Connected turned on and did have the Keep Alive Widget turned on (although this option seems to have disappeared from the settings after last night’s Fitbit app update). I have tried with Enable Transliteration both on and off although I do not expect to see non-latin characters in any alerts. Life 360 is of course turned on in my notification app list.

For troubleshooting I have:

  • Rebooted numerous times
  • Reinstalled Life 360 alone
  • Reinstalled Fitbit App alone
  • Uninstalled Life 360, then Uninstalled Fitbit, then reset my Ionic, then deleted all Bluetooth connections to the Ionic, rebooted my phone, then reinstalled Life 360, reinstalled the Fitbit App and the re-paired and setup my Ionic.

The problem is unchanged.

Given that these alerts appear just fine in the Android notification shade and the failing notification category is similarly configured to a working one I believe this is a Fitbit software issue and would love any help the community and particularly Fitbit support can offer.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone at Fitbit Support got anything to suggest for this?

Final bump before I resort to trying to contact support directly. Anyone?

The problem persists after an OS upgrade to 9.0.3.

Because my phone is not on the Fitbit compatibility list their support have dismissed my request for help and basically washed their hands off the problem. If this is how support issues are handled then I seriously regret my purchase of a fitbit device. It would seem that any problem I get will be dismissed and so I now find myself with a $250 device that has no manufacturer backup. Shameful.

Wow... Seems like you are very thorough and in depth and know your way around Android, as I do and this a very good question, now that you bring it up I don't get these on my versa either, I am running Android 9.0 pie beta, on my S9+ , but I have the arrival at home or my parents house turned to silent just get the icon in the stairs bar, with no audio or vibration, do get the others though, I will turn it on and run it through some tests and checks and see if I can help or find a work around, I am like you I wouldn't see any reason why it wouldn't transmit it over to the watch as the other 360 notifications do , kinda weird , may be in a changable .dll file or or something that I can look at, give me a few days and will see what I can figure out. My email  might be easier to communicate through there as changing files and "work around" may be frowned upon. Just FYI . .but at any rate let me play around with it.

WARPed1701D,

Just wanted to let you know I'm having the same issue with my Versa. I'm not getting Life360 Place notifications (only ones I have turned on for Life360) on my Google Pixel 3 running Android 9. I have also done all the things you've done to troubleshoot. I used to get place notifications on my Versa, last time was maybe 6 months ago. Don't remember if there was an app update, Versa firmware update, or Android update that was associated with my no longer getting the notifications.

All to say, I have no solution, but you're not alone.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It is good to know I'm not alone.

Last time I looked, Fitbit were not updating their supported device list with newer phones but if they did then I'd expect to see the Pixel on there  Maybe you will be successful in logging a support request if so but I expect blame to be pushed onto Life360.

If anything ever changes I'll be sure to post it here.

I am having this exact same issue with my Galaxy S10. I did not have it with my iPhone XS. I talked with customer service and spent an hour trouble shooting the issue. Same basic answer "the phone in not on the list of supported devices"

I made it very clear this app is not a game app or a fitness/how much water I drank app. I told them this is am app that as a single mother of a teenager is crucial to me. I emphasized that parents use this app for safety of their children. I truly hole someone takes this serious and fixes it!!!

I am also having issues with place notifications from the Life360 app on my Google Pixel 2, which is listed as a compatible phone. These are honestly the only notifications that I want from this app, because I want to know when my teenager is coming and going. The lack of response from Fitbit is disappointing, and the intermittent notification issues overall have me considering other options for my next smart watch - even the jump to iOS for an Apple Watch. I wanted to stay with Fitbit because all of my health history is here. The Versa is my 3rd Fitbit device and I have the Aria scale, with which I have also had issues.

I can and will say that my issues have been resolved ... Soon as you'll get a new firmware update, I believe that you will be happy. Not much more I can say on this issues due to some privacy issues and agreements, but everything with 360 should be cleared up soon. 🤫😉

Hello again Mike,

Thanks for the update  I'll be very happy when these key notifications start coming in. I'll report back when it happens.

I'm having the same issue. Life 360 is the only app I can't seem to get notifications from even though it is checked in the Fitbit app. I'd really like to know how to fix this.

I'm fixing it by selling my Ionic and getting a Garmin Fenix 5. Ordered it last night. You can get them cheap now the Fenix 6 is out.

Fitbit has pushed me over the edge with all this Premium subscription crap. I don't want to pay for some basic metrics especially given the promised Spo2 data never turned up. My Ionic is 9 months old. Based on the experience of others here I expect it to break in the next 6 months or so, so I'm getting ahead of the game by moving on before it becomes worthless.

My old MS Band 2 and Huawei Watch 2 Classic were significantly better devices with significantly better metrics. Its a shame the Band 2 had a design flaw in the band material and that the Huawei ran on Android Wear (shudder) or I'd still have them. My Ionic was my first and last Fitbit  The wife is selling her Charge 2 as well based on Fitbit's move to subscription based data.

Good luck all.

I get notifications about completed drives, and in-app messaging etc. it is the arrival and departure notifications (the most important ones) I don't get  Never have.  I appreciate your efforts on resolving this and clearly they will benefit more than just me, but I'm going to try Garmin for a while, and if they disappoint I'll be back to a regular dumb watch that will last me a decade or more and a simple life where I won't know and stress about every health metric in my life. It actually sounds quite nice.

How did you get your Life360 notifications for places to show up on your versa? I am trying to figure it out and can't.  Love everything else about the versa, but annoyed that I can't get those notifications.
