Phantom steps & stairs

I've had the ionic for a little over 2 months and I keep getting phantom counts.  I've rebooted the device, and powered it off, and sometimes this seems to help for a few days/weeks but it's gotten really frustrating.  Sometimes it will count the stairs at my work, I walk up them at a minimum of twice a day on weekdays, and sometimes it will not.  Other days, like today, I've supposedly walked up 3 flights of stairs and 400 steps while driving in my car on my commute to work.  When I got to work I walked up the stairs and it didn't count those.  I've done a bit of searching and can't seem to find a fix outside of restarting, and powering the device off and back on.  Is there anything I can try to fix this issue?

For the driving aspect, I've heard that you can add "driving" as one of your exercise activities to help minimize the step count.  I've never tried it, but I heard it works.

As for the stair count, try doing a soft reset.  Sometimes my stair count doesn't work, but once I do the soft reset, it works.  Just hold down the bottom right and left buttons for about 10 seconds and the Fitbit logo will appear.  Once it does, that signals a successful restart.

I appreciate the response and maybe wasn't clear in my original post.  When I said I rebooted the device, I was talking about the soft reset.  I've done this quite a few times and it only seems to help for a few days/weeks.  I will investigate the driving activity option for the step count.
