Running pace

Ive upgraded to ionic after many years of Fitbit but I’m thinking of swapping away because when I’m running, my pace on the Fitbit jumps erratically - anywhere between 3 minutes per mile. Eg if I know that I’m running 10 min miles approx, and maintaining a consistent pace on a straight road, I can look at it three times over a minute and get 8:30/10:30/12:40 per mile etc. It’s infuriating. Is this common?

Probably you are looking at the Instant Pace, which varies a lot just like if you look at Instant Fuel Consumption in a car when driving.

These variations occur because of GPS and Glonass are always correcting/updating the precision of your location, so it goes crazy sometimes.

I recommend you to look the Pace (Avg) during your running. The Pace Avg will not consider that GPS quick corrections of your position, and will show you a more consistent value of Pace.

Hope this helps you out.

Regards.

Thank you, it does, and I know what you are saying. The only issue being is that I live in a hilly area, and I’d like to be able to look at my Fitbit and see what I am currently running at, for example if I’m currently running on a long flat stretch instead of a steep uphill which would be much slower. I don’t really expect perfection, but the variances in pave Fitbit gives me within a few seconds are really sizeable.
