I was very excited to purchase my Ionic this morning after Microsoft discontinued the Band2, which I loved. I have been trying for 5 hours to set up the new watch. Nothing works. I have tried every trick mentioned by others in the forums. I have tried using my Windows 10 PC and also the app on my iPhone 5S. This is asinine. No technology should be so darn difficult to figure out! My Band and Band2, as well as the Charge2HR I am switching from (yes, I removed that from all my devices as part of the trouble shooting) were so hard to get to connect. I get the need for some features to need wi-fi. However, for the basics, when the watch is hard-connected to the PC, none of that should be an issue, right? What about people without decent wi-fi? They can't use this watch?
I am about three more tries away from saying to heck with this and buying an Apple Watch...

Make sure you are using 2.4 GHz WiFi.
If you don't have decent WiFi then that's a problem with the WiFi not the Ionic.
WiFi is only required for music files and firmware upgrades.

Yes, I understand that its not an issue with the watch, but with the Wi-fi. Where I live right now, I have no Wi-fi. It's only hard-line internet and spotty public Wi-fi when it actually works.
The app keeps giving me an error message right at the end of the initial install. (com.fitbit.HTTP error0). I have tried every work-around online. At this time, I only want to get the watch up and running- don't even care, in the beginning, about music and stuff. That all can be done later when I get good internet. I am more interested in getting this thing talking to my phone so I can use the running abilities like the GPS. Maybe be able to change watch faces too?
No matter what I try, the watch reverts to the beginning screen- the one with the Fitbit emblem in blue that cycles through the different languages for setup.
I'll take it by Starbucks tomorrow afternoon and see if I can make it work, otherwise it is going back for a refund and I will go with the Apple 3. I wasn't expecting the setup for this to be so much more of a pain than the Microsoft Bands or Charge 2 HR.

Oh and btw the watch can charge but does not connect via USB cable.
Bluetooth and WiFi are your options, it's best you use an android or Apple device unless you are transferring music

You will need to upgrade your firmware on your watch via WiFi. Use Bluetooth on your watch to sync with your phone. Your phone still needs internet.
Pretty much all devices need internet to set up nowadays Inc apple.

Can't you set up a WiFi network from a wired connection?

I finally got it to work! You were right about converting my hard line to Wi-Fi. After I turned my laptop into a hotspot, the Ionic performed a firmware update and cruised through the setup process in less than an hour. Your idea was valuable, as I now don't have to return the watch and can try it out on a run this afternoon.
Thank you for the help!
Cheers.

Unfortunately I did not have success installing the ionic.
Since Sunday I am trying - I reboot the clock, I have installed again the app, I disable all firewall, and nothing works.
I am very disappointed in buying this device.
When arrives 96% downloading it fails....and I have to retry again....and again, and again
Never works, all fails.
Can I get some help<

Try sticking the watch right next to the router. Try turning off 5Ghz WiFi.

Bittenca,
Are you pairing your Ionic to a smart phone, or just to your computer? I had to make my computer "forget" the watch and just pair with my iPhone while both connected to decent Wi-Fi. I know how frustrating it can be to fuddle through the process, but I promise that, once you get the watch talking to the internet so that it can update the firmware, that you will love the Ionic! I have been using it for about a month now and have no regrets! Keep at it, and you should find someone who can help here online in the forums. The more info you post as to what you have tried and what hardware (what type of phone and operating systems) you are using, the better detail you should get in response! Good luck.
Cheers.

It seems a joke. But its fail again for 5 times on this Sunday.
I m pairing with a computer, windows 10, updated and no firewall.
I reboot the watch, uninstall the app and installed again.
I put the cable to net, not wifi.....and it doesn t work.
I am really upset for not being success. Its a pity.
I do not know what to do more....if someone could help I do really appreciate.

I also did not have much luck when pairing to my Windows PC. I had to make my computer forget my new Ionic and used the Fitbit App on the watch to pair with and update the watch. Keep in mind, the cable that connects to the Ionic is for charging only... that cable does not connect the watch to the computer. You have to use Wifi for that.
