Some activities not syncing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hey community and Fitbit

I have a new issue that has cropped up today. My Ionic has recorded all the activities I have completed today but they all do not sync to the app.

See the photos below. The Ionic is showing my 3 Bike Activities but the Fitbit app (Windows and Andoid) does not sync all the activites, just 2.

Things like this are making me hate the Ionic. It can't do the simple things correctly. To any Fitbit staff. I have restarted and reset both my phone, my laptop and I have restarted the Ionic. It continues to pretend to sync but it does not include the middle activity.

Come on Fitbit get your act together. Just recently I went through 3 weeks of dodgy Android app and the inability to track Interval Training activities properly. Additionally I have not forgotten that you advertised with an SpO2 sensor but it has not been turned on! This is very poor and needs addressing, along with innumeralble other issues and bugs that you are currently ignoring.

For now though, why is my Fitbit Ionic selectively syncing exercises,

Regards,

Gearóid

It's nice to see you around the forums @SunsetRunner! Thanks for posting those pictures and also for troubleshooting this inconvenience with the GPS.

Have you updated the app to its latest version already? Also, the Fitbit Ionic

If you've done exactly as posted above, I'd recommend doing the following:

  • Log out from your Fitbit app
  • Force quit the app
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit app

Fitbit Ionic has built-in GPS. When you select a GPS exercise, Ionic vibrates when it finds a GPS signal. If Ionic doesn't find a signal immediately, keep in mind that environmental factors including tall buildings, dense forest, steep hills, and even thick cloud cover can interfere with your watch's ability to connect to GPS satellites.

For best results, wait for Ionic to find the signal before you start your workout. However, if you don't want to wait you can start your workout and GPS tracking begins when Ionic finds a signal.

Give this a go and let me know how it goes!

Hi @MarreFitbit

Please revert the title, your title is inaccurate and does not describe the issue. This is a sync issue. It has nothing to do with GPS.

Second, yes it's the Ionic, I posted in the Ionic forum and posted pictures of an Ionic!?

I have done all that you suggested already. Including uninstalling and reinstalling the app also and additionally I unpaired and the repaired my Ionic.

I have had the Ionic since launch as I pre-ordered. I know how to use it, please don't patronise me with generic instructions on tracking exercises.

Yesterday the watch recorded as shown in my photos all my activities but it would not sync to the app. It has selectively synced exercises.

Please give me a response that is specific to my issue and not a generic response.

Regards,

Gearoid

If you really feel the title is wrong @SunsetRunner then you may want to edit the title.

Edit post in community

However your original post does not seem like a sync issue, but an issue with the GPS elrecorded exercises.

I say this because there is no mention that the days step data has not synced with your Fitbit account, unless some of the symptoms showing up have not been mentioned.

@Rich_Laue The title was edited by Fitbit staff. I want it put back to the original by them, otherwise they will do it again. Out of 3 exercises, 2 synced to the phone. This is nothing to do with GPS. Even if GPS had not worked, an activity should have synced to the phone as it's shown on the Ionic.

Personally I think it has more to do with recirded activities. There is still no mention of a problem with syncing the daily data, the problem seems to be with interpreting the data.

BTW nothing syncs to the phone, everything syncs to you Fitbit account, then the Fitbit app gets the processed data from your Fitbit account.

When you go to the list of activities on Fitbit.com what do you see?

Looking there will tell us if it is an app or server problem.

Hi @Rich_Laue, do you work for Fitbit? The reason I ask is because you keep saying "us" as if you work for them and to be honest your answers are not helpful.

Now to make it very clear, The Ionic does sync to a phone! The Ionic must communicate with a fitbit app(iOS, Android, Windows, Mac) via bluetooth first. Then the app(on whatever platform) sends this data to the fitbit servers. There is no way for the Ionic to communicate directly with the Fitbit servers, therefore it "syncs" to the app(which in my case is on my phone) which then "syncs" to the servers.

Below is the list of activities from fitbit.com, as you will see it shows the same exercises as my screenshot provided in the first message! The date in question is Aug 30.

2018-09-01 20_22_06-Track My Activities on Fitbit.jpg

My photos in the first message show that I did 3 activities on Aug 30. Therefore either Fitbits phone app, or their servers have selectively synced my exercises.

This is what I said in my first message and I would appreciate a proper response from Fitbit.

Just click on the hot link to the right of my name, what looks like two Cs facing each other,  and you will see that I am a volunteer who just happens to have a Fitbit or two or three.

A sync of the Fitbit tracker will only be successful when the data gets sent from the tracker to the Fitbit server in the cloud. The server then processes the data and places it into the owners account. It is not until the data is placed into the owners account that a sync is considered successful and then the app will have access to the data. The app on the phone simply passes the data on to the cloud.

The reason I was asking for a list is so that the status of all the recorded activities for the day could be seen. I really wasn't concearned if the activity was tracked with GPS or not. Your first post was clear that the third ride was not tracked by GPS. It was not clear as to if the ride was recorded in any way at all.

Did you wait to the end of the day to sync, I have seen reports of a sync with multiple events, not transferring all of the events. Usually it is the oldest and not the middle one.

Could it be that the tracker did not sync between the second and third bike ride?

Since as only a Fitbit user, I do not have access to your data, I would suggest reaching out to Fitbit, link found in the right hand slideout menu.

Hi Rich,

This last message you sent seems to at last show that as my title
originally said and as said in my very first message, the Ionic did track
the exercise but somehow when syncing, the middle exercise was ignored by
Fitbit.

This shows it was not a GPS issue therefore the subject change "for
clarity" was ridiculous. The subject change was done to try and say I was
using the Ionic incorrectly, Fitbit's usual response to blame the customer
and bury their head in sand springs to mind. It is apparent that there is a
problem with how Fitbit is processing data. It should not matter how many
activities you have tracked since you completed a full sync, activities
should not be skipped.

Once again I am waiting for someone from Fitbit to reach out to me and
instead of saying this is my fault, to take responsibility and research the
issue. This is an issue that is added to an already extremely long list of
issues with the Ionic and it seems the issues are with FitbitOS as the
Versa has a ridiculous amount of issues also.

Regards
Gearoid.

You can wait all you want for someone to reach out to you from Fitbit, nut please remember that this board is a community board and set up for Fitbit users to help each other out.

As I stated in my last post, you would want to reach out and contact.fitbit.com

I will not be reaching out because every time they say that the issue was never reported before, or ask me to reset everything and then I hear nothing from them again. I am making sure that accurate information on the many many many failings of the Ionic are well documented for prospective buyers.

Additionally, if Fitbit have the time to edit subjects to blame the user they have the time to take issues reported here seriously.

Also if they are not going to contact users directly when they break an app(3 weeks for Android app) and instead use this forum as the method of communication, then who are they to say I should be contacting them directly. I am a firm believer in lead by example.
