So I walked my treadmill this morning & started the treadmill exercise on my watch at the same time. I walked for 82 minutes & stopped the treadmill & the watch ap at the same time. According to my treadmill, I walked 4.51 miles. According to my watch, I walked 2.91 miles. That seems like a very large difference. Does that mean the step count is probably way off as well?

The mileage calculated in the Fitbit app is solely based on number of steps counted by the Ionic along with your walking stride length that you set for yourself in Settings > Advanced Settings > Stride Length > Walking Stride Length. I suggest that you measure a set distance on your street, or if you have access to a measured football or soccer field or basketball court, use that. Carefully count your steps at your natural relaxed gait, repeat a few times and take the average. Calculate your stride length by dividing the distance (in inches) by the number if steps and enter that number including decimals into your walking stride length in the Fitbit app. Then try your treadmill comparison again. That said, your treadmill could be in need of calibration too?

Thanks for the advice!! I looked into my settings and found my fitbit to be set to automatically detect my stride lengths for both walks ng and running. The walking stride length it showed looked correct to me. Not sure how to calibrate my treadmill, but even the data my treadmill displays looks correct to me. So I’m not sure why there is such a great difference in distance walked on the 2 outputs. Maybe my steps are correct then?

The step count is definitely off. I have a thread talking about the step count. I'm so pissed with the Ionic . I'm taking it back

I've found that if I'm holding the handrail while I'm on the treadmill, it won't register my steps. Tried it today w/o holding and it was correct. But, I need the stability -- kinda defeats the purpose.

I’m with you, DennEppe, I need the support of the treadmill handles in order to keep from flying off of it. LOL! 🤣
Just to clarify, the Fitbit is registering my steps, but considering how off the miles walked are on the fitbit versus the treadmill, I’m just concerned that the steps showing on the fitbit may not be truly accurate.

I’m so sorry for your experience, ChaydaBlack. I’m happy I have something that tracks steps, just really want an accurate count.

It makes sense that it would not properly holding the rails. It has to register stride somehow and I sure arm swing is part of it. I have not tried it on a treadmill. I have counted my steps a few times in walks and it was dead on. But I am with you. At my age I need the rails at times.

I just bought the Versa. So far very disappointed. The battery lasted less than 24 hours and you can’t respond to messages. Today my treadmill said I walked 2.5 miles, and the Versa said 6100 steps and 4.5 miles, totally inaccurate. I would also like Spotify. The advertising on tv depicts you can answer texts too.
