Steps counting whilst driving

My ionic is frequently counting steps whilst driving.....a little annoying for the price. My old samsung gear fit 2 did not do this ever..I'm driving the same routes in the same car....starting to regret my decision to go for a "higher end" device.....so far the fit bit ionic is not living up to the price tag.  Does anyone know of a way to stop the step count whilst driving?  Thanks.

Our engineers have worked diligently on your tracker's algorithms to make sure that it does not pick up false steps or activity recordings while in a car. Unless you are driving in a car with a stiff transmission or on back country roads, your tracker should not give you credit for any work that you don't do.

On the article, you will find information about deleting those steps.

Also, you can check the app drive bit, which is supposed to delete automatically those steps. Personally, unless you participate in a lot of challenges, you better get used to those steps. All my devices (alta hr, charge hr and ionic) have gave me some steps).

Well this sounds like a case of, "on paper it is this way." Vs. "Reality is this. I have been experiencing the same problem and my truck is brand new and I commute on pretty smooth freeways. I gotta say I was really dissappointed, given the price. Just like tho poster said, I didn't think it would have this problem since it was a "top of the line."

I had the same problem with the three fitbit's i owned so I used the app drivebit which worked but you had to remember to start it when you got in the vehicle and stop it when you stopped,  I always forgot to stop it and lost lots of steps but figured I had burnt a few extra calories that weren't in fitbit.  Since changing to a different brand I haven't had this problem and now don't get the extra steps while driving,  i also don't get the extra steps for arm movements that my charge hr & surge gave me. Much happier with my present device.

What device do you now have? I’m on my second ionic and it still keeps counting steps when I’m not taking any and when I’m not even moving I’ve looked down and it’s counting steps. Pretty disappointed with this device considering how much it cost

I have the ionic. It's very disappointing. Gutted that I lost my old samsung - it was half the price and was better!!

I use the ionic since begin december and have no problems with driving car and steps.

It sounds as if there is a difference between one Ionic and another.

Maybe contact support about what to do?!?!

@MikeD7 I went to a Garmin vivoactive hr and the upgraded to the vivoactive 3 last Nov.

I would expect it to count some steps from using the pedals in a car but I take it it’s counting a lot more than that?

If you have your hand on the steering wheel and sit down in the chair, it should not 'see' if you use the pedals with your feet.

Your body is not moving as if you are walking, so it should not 'see' any shocks in the wrist to count as steps.

The way your arm moves and 'shocks' while walking is what is counting and not your feet.

Well perhaps ... you go move your arms around though. I think if it’s only registering a few steps that’s a fair representation of the movement but if it’s a lot that’s a problem.
