Steps while sleeping

I only just got a Fitbit ionic yesterday evening and when I woke this morning there were over 700 steps on it and one floor climbed. I barely move in my sleep and I don’t even have stairs in my house. I tried resetting and it didn’t make a difference. Is my Fitbit faulty?

A warm welcome to the Community @gracemorey96! Thanks for the details that you've mentioned, and I appreciate the reset that you did. I'm glad to hear that you just got your Fitbit Ionic. Robot Happy

Is my Fitbit faulty? I will explain how Fitbit tracks your data and then we can determine what's the next step. Your Ionic will track any steps that you take even when it's tracking your sleep, for example, if you wake up and go to the bathroom those steps will be tracked. Do you remember waking up at some point during the night?

Fitbit devices detect floors with an altimeter, which is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure. Your device is designed to detect pressure changes based on elevation gain, but other types of pressure changes—such as a gust of wind, a weather change, or opening a door—can occasionally cause your device to register extra floors.

If you don't remember waking up and walking, then restart your Ionic and track your sleep tonight. I know you already reset it but I would like you to try this once again.

Keep me posted.
