Last week I noticed my Ionic was behind on time while I was away on vacation. I tried to sync it but it said I needed to update the device. The device never connected to my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note8) to perform this update. I tried, in this order:
1. Turning bluetooth on and off
2. Unpairing and trying to re-pair via bluetooth - it never paired with bluetooth again
3. Restarting the Ionic and repeating steps 1&2
4. Restarting my phone and trying steps 1&2.
5. Uninstalling and re-installing the FitBit app to make sure I had the latest version
6. Factory reset of the Ionic
Now, the Ionic has been on a loop of the FitBit logo flashing on the screen for ~15 seconds, disappearing for ~2 seconds, and repeating. This has been going on now for 30 minutes. I've tried another factory reset and same issue. I've had this Ionic since November and besides the occasional sync error, I've never had any problem like this.

If the factory reset didnt work, then you will need to contact Support (link in my signature ). First though it might be worth trying another factory reset using the buttons and see if that breaks it out of the loop.
FACTORY RESET USING BUTTONS
On the watch, hold all three buttons for about twelve seconds. This triggers the 2-button hardware reboot after about eight seconds.
- When the Fitbit logo appears, then disappears, release the bottom right button, then continue holding the left and top right buttons until you feel a strong vibration. This indicates the factory reset was initiated.
- This process may take several seconds, and eventually, the Fitbit logo appears and the device boots and displays go to Fitbit.com/setup.
- If you fail to release the bottom right button in time, or otherwise don't follow the procedure precisely, the Fitbit logo reappears quickly and boots without factory reset.
If the device turns on, please go back to the Fitbit app and setup your device back to your account with these steps. Make sure your watch is plugged into a wall plug or a computer, next to the router and that there are no other trackers or devices with Bluetooth on nearby when setting up. Please log into your account, go to account on the upper right corner, there look for "setup a device" and tap on it. Follow the instructions on the screen and let the watch charge for 2 hours.

Thanks NellyG. I tried a third factory reset after letting it loop overnight - I got the vibration that the factory reset was triggered but it's still going in the loop 😞

I had the same problem over the last couple of weeks. I let the watch completely die (meaning when you hit the left button, nothing comes up - not even the empty battery). Then I recharged and started over. It did the update and then installed .. now everything is working normally. Fitbit's suggestion was to buy a new watch ..
