Hi @fath3r_torta. Your Ionic is a wrist based tracker, thus it depends on wrist movements to indicate movement (steps or swimming). When holding onto the kickboard, its not going to register movement. The same thing happens on a treadmill when holding on. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
I was told to do a couple of strokes with your fitbit arm while doing kick to get it registering and then continue to the end of the pool. You'll need to do each lap. Same applies to some drills. Sometimes even this doesn't work either. Does for my friend. But then he can wave his ionic arm and get steps...I cannot.
