Using Ionic for indoor swimming

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've been using my Ionic to track pool swimming for about 6 months, 3-4 times per week. During this period, the watch tracked my swim correctly only couple times. But that is not a big deal (i can count my laps without the watch), even if it tracked everything correctly the output information about the activity is just hilarious! The only info i get from my Ionic after hours of swimming is calories burned per lap and total.

How is that going to help me improve my swimming  or achieve my goals?

Hi @artemsht,

Not a swimmer here, but I'm wondering why you're not using the Ionic to track your pace? That seems to be an important measurement to help you improve your swimming.

Below is an article that goes over the swim features, that you may find helpful.

Hi @WavyDavey

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, it doesn't track pace. The only things it tracks are calories burned and number of lengths/distance.

@artemsht there are two ways to track your swimming, the easiest but gives less information is to simply let Fitbit decide.

The other way is to use the multisport mode swim. This usually gives more data, but I haven't swam yet to know. we are not sure which mode is being used. .

Hi @Rich_Laue

Thanks for your reply.

How do i do "multisport mode swim"?

I'm not sure what you mean by "let Fitbit decide", I would assume it's auto recognition of activities... So, if yes, I don't use this mode. I manually start tracking my swimming and manually put it on pause while resting.

Yes you may just go for a swim and let the tracker decide that you are swimming.

Or

Use the multisport mode.

Swipe to exercises/tap/swipe to swim/ start. Before hitting start, there are settings you may want to change/tap the gear.

Let's go to the Fitbit hel docs.

How do I use exercise apps and modes on my Fitbit device?

Track specific exercises and save the data to your exercise history

Thanks @Rich_Laue

That what i do. The problem is not that i don't know how to record exercise, the problem is lack of data. The watch was designed for swimming, but the only statistic it provides is calories count 😔

And how many steps you took in the pool don't forget. I really needed to know that.

@Linzbfc I'm not sure I understand, if a user is walking while in the pool, they will be taken steps since they are walking. Now if the user is swimming in the pool, they will not be stepping since they are not walking.

I walk across the pool to get to my lane. I’m not interested in those steps as much as I am in my actual swim data. I just thought it strange and unnecessary for those steps to be highlighted when there was so little info about my actual swim which I am used to having.

Swimming with mine killed it. They gave me a refurbished unit that fails to sync 99% of the time. I now have two worthless watches for the price of one. Bad warranty!!!

Just curious @SunsetRunner was the unit clearly stamped on the box and possibly the Ionic, as required by regulations, as refurbished or remanufactured?
