Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

What an absolute farce.  No warning that your device is unregistered straight away leaving you without sync until you get a replacement model, no confirmation that your recall has been processed, no confirmation of the actual amount to be refunded and it’s a guess when you’ll actually get it between the 3-6 weeks.

Does anyone have an email for fitbit customer support?

I own an Ionic and these are being recalled. They've emailed me to start the refund process so they know I own an Ionic. However, the darn thing won't charge (which I believe is the problem in the first place) so it won't sync with the app and they can't therefore verify it online so I'm stuck!

Their chat feature doesn't get answered and the support phone line just has me on hold all day.

Help!!

Yep same here Tammy! I guess we just have to sit and wait, bit disappointing as I want to buy my replacement but obviously want to wait for the discount code. Meanwhile are we just supposed to just go watchless until they catch up with their backlog??? Very frustrating 😫

It’s on one of the Fitbit pages, (can’t remember offhand) but it’s easy to google ‘Fitbit recall refund amount’ and find … (look down the page) https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/tech/fitbit-recalls-ionic-smartwatch-over-burn-hazard-risk-all-yo...

Hi

I have registered for the refund and received the email with my reference code (a long number). The link in the email to 'verify my account' takes me to an error page stating 'this page is on a different journey' but there is no link to go to the correct 'journey'! Is this a temporary glitch?

I stopped using mine a while back after it got warm and refused to charge.. I have registered for the recall and have the registration email, but so far the reference code is not recognised on the next stage of account verification and deleting the device - 5 hours after doing the first part of the process.  The page says contact support.. but that seems to be a waste of time

No-one seems to reply to DMs on Twitter and I got kicked off live chat after 30 minutes waiting. I dont have time sit all day at a PC trying this, so what is going on Fitbit?  I tried to start again but just get a message about the form already being completed.

I went through the whole process within the past hour. I received an email asking to confirm my email address. I have now noticed that my Iconic will not sync but still functions as a watch. No further emails but it is early days.

Is there anyone try to process refund for their Fitbit ionic due to the safety recall?

I am having a problem in the process of refund. After i receive a reference number, there’s a button to verify your fitbit account. Once i click login, it does not take me to the login page. So, i am basically stuck here.

Same here

Hi,

I am not able to verify my account! It tells me there is no route to the page.

Did you have this trouble?

Yes it appears to be an automotive unsync and a human catch up along the
line.

It appears others are getting both refund and discount so Wait Out as we
said in the army.
Still functions as a watch face and I can still use app to register walks
and bike rides.

Sooooo... I managed to get the Ionic to turn on and it gets recognised by my computer, but how do I input the 4 digit code that's supposedly on the Ionic screen to continue setup, if the screen looks like this?:
