Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

Feeling they just want to fulfill the minimum legal requirement to disable the ionic and control the lost in the refund action.

So if anyone encounter any difficulty in those steps, you can tell as a company, ignoring is a good option.

Hi,

Just wanted some clarity, I am located in the UK, do I need to send my Ionic device back to Fitbit to receive my refund or dispose of it inline with local authorities?

i have been told I should receive my refund in 3-6 weeks via PayPal, I was not told to send my device back, if I do need to send it back please can someone advise on the process?

thanks

It is a safety issue in that they don't want you to sell it to someone else who could maybe get hurt.  Also if every human on the planet could be trusted Fitbit would have to have you go through hoops to give out refunds and discounts

Is that for both the refund and the discount?

Same here. Watch’s sync was disabled immediately but no confirmation email, no discount code & I selected Mastercard for refund but they don’t have my card details. No-one answers live chat & FB messages are answered but without actually answering any of my questions! 😡Oh & they refer you to live chat where no-one answers!  Paid £300 for my watch (£249.99 + the leather band) & I haven’t got a functioning watch anymore now that they’ve disabled it. (I’m in the UK too).

If you didn't get your email, you can always try this link: https://myhelp.fitbit.com/s/devicediscount

I think they are sending a pre-paid mastercard to you so they don't need your bank details.

Hello, can you tell me please if I'm in the UK, do I have to dispose my Ionic or do I have to send to you in order to receive the refund?

And will I get the Mastercard Gift Card sent by post delivered home?

Regards,

Florin

All

This is my experience. Which seems to be seamless compared to others. I registered last night just after 6pm (AEST). Received an email (step 1) providing the reference number and a link to verify account. Around 20 minutes later, I verified my account, using the reference number provided (took the screenshot which said that the device will be disabled within 7 working days and refund within 3-6 weeks)

At this stage I did not receive an email with the discount code. After reading through this community, and using a link someone posted for the discount, It came up with step 4, to register the discount. Using the same reference code, at that time (which was around 7pm), it said the reference number  was not valid. I waited again another 10 minutes and the code accepted. Within seconds I received the email with the discount code.

I received another email an 1 1/2 hours later to advise, 'we have verified your account, disabled your device syncing and will issue your refund within 3-6 weeks. I opted during step 1 to have a Mastercard debit card, the email confirmation, suggests this is will be a virtual done (sent via email).

So right now, all good on my end. Just have to wait for the refund.

me too! I was waiting more than two hours... always said "Reference Code not found."

I’ve just been told on the Live Chat that my reference code hasn’t been activated. Apparently this can take a few days & I should wait a couple of days while the recall centre activate it. We’ll see!

Hi I just feel like wearing the watch untill you can sort this problem out as everyone has the same issue I can't seem to get it to disable my watch and get a code for the discount and get my refund in which it said wait 3-6weeks and because of all the people complaining I don't even think it's gonna happen in them 6 weeks you not very clear on what's going on and I think Fitbit should get a person in the know how to get a proper procedure sorted ASAP becaude were all not happy with not having our watches
