Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

That was also happening to me. I registered again and got a new code and that seemed to do the trick for me. Not sure it will 100% work but you could give it a go. 😄

Looks like I've lost my discount then as I logged in to have a look at what was available but having 2 young kids I didn't purchase and had to come out and deal with them.

I assumed from the wording of the email that it was the discount code you could only use once, since it said buy everything at the time as it can only be used once.

This process is a total joke, I went in to see what the prices were to see if I could afford to buy now or if I would have to wait.

How can someone only get one chance to log in when you have no idea what is available and at what price.

@fitbit the processing of this matter is majorly flawed.

I went back to the store without having to fill in a code by clicking on Exclusives on the main page of the store? I don't know if it's just me or what. lol

Believe it or not. I've already registered for a new code. Same problem here. County is correct. But still - code not 😶 This procedure is very annoying.

@OllieCrafoord @Does that allow you to use the code though, since the link they sent is for a discount store?

Yes, it's been the most annoying process. Fitbit was not ready for this at all, lol.

I was having the same issue as others. I’m in the UK and never received an email for the discount however my Fitbit had stopped syncing. I waited a fair time before contacting Fitbit through online chat. They sent me a link which I initially thought was the same, where you put your reference code to verify the account. I did then notice that there was a step 4 for discount code. I used my initial verification and it went through and then the code was sent to me. I’ve just bought the Versa with the discount. Now just to wait for the refund. Hope this helps others

Yeah, I purchased another thing through it, lol.

@Stefan8923  No, you don't have to use the 40% discount. I also chose Paypal for the refund and their follow up email said I would get the refund ($299) within 3-6 weeks. Here's part of the follow up email I received from them regarding the discount:

Thanks for verifying your eligibility for your discount. To keep you as part of the Fitbit family, we’re offering you the following:
40% off up to 5 Fitbit devices–that’s 1 for you and 1 for up to 4 friends! Check the store to see which devices are available for purchase. Up to 5 free accessory bands–1 for each device you order. 1 Fitbit Premium subscription for a full year (new members only). Free expedited shipping (where available). It does mention that you have to purchase everything in the same transaction.

The devices available are the Sense, Charge 5 and Versa 3. There were a couple of different bands per device that you could choose from for your free add-on.

As an update: I DM'd Fitbit support on Twitter around 5pm, then again at 7 to let them know that I've cancelled the order because of the screw up. I just had an answer from them asking for some other information so that they can create a case for me. I've cooled off on the whole thing but will wait and see what they have to say.

Did you already receive your refund? Or are you still waiting for it? I hope, the third verification code will work in about 30 to 60 minutes.

They said the refund will take 3-6 weeks. But I got my discount code and purchased a new device.

Hello,

i recently finished the recall process, everything done, but I only recieved a discount code and not the 220 pounds I want. I selected “send to card” in the process, but it never asked me for my card details and I don’t know where the money is going and how can I get it?

thanks

I believe that's just the United States that has to do that?

You can go "in" as many times as you want. You can only USE the discount ONE time. (Add everything you need to cart prior to one-time check out.)

Well. I posted the contents of my email as a direct reply to you. That is where I heard about only the US returning the watch. Since you do not have the time to read the 60 pages which I actually read and have a life, so do I mate. G'day.

Apparently, he wants "proof" and doesn't have the time to read 60 pages. 😄

Hi. I have registered for my return and got the reference code. Been trying since midday today. Called customer services and was on hold for 40 min to be told to keep trying…
