Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

@Steve.G I suspect that there is a suggested retail price for their approved sellers.

What the vendor decides to sell it for is different and probably profit driven.

My Ionic still works, it doesn't sync with the app but I really don't think I need all of my info as I don't really use the app much at all.

I don't care about the burn risk, as the chances of it overheating are incredibly low.  So I'm fairly chuffed, I've made money on a purchase, I keep it and it still works well, probably better as I've not installed the last bad update and the battery lasts longer.

How did you keep it running they killed mine, it refuses to charge as I would have kept mine as it’s never been a problem. I’ve had 3 before that have all burnt but the one the gets recalled was perfect.
I got the sense when they sent the voucher code

Not yet! I completed mine on the first day of the recall and not heard anything further.

Happened to me too. I filed through UPS as a third party since Fitbit provided the box and return label. Then I called the Fitbit Ionic recall line and had them create a case which provides a reference number you can refer back to.

UPS wouldn't help:

Rachelle S (3/30/2022, 3:16:51 PM): Yes, I am sorry as upon checking here on my end, your package did not receive a scan since 03/12/22 and in this case, we can consider this package lost in transit.

For any package that has no updates for more than 24 hours and already passed the scheduled delivery date, it is considered as lost or missing and an investigation is needed so that our team scouts help us locate it.

We normally conduct an investigation for shipments that were lost or missing. However, for this particular package, your sender/merchant prefers to handle shipment inquiries and they asked that you contact them directly.

I've called Fitbit customer support twice now and have been told that they'd escalate the issue and I'd receive a response within 24 hours.

Still waiting...

Is that separate to the refund application?

My son just received his refund. He's in Canada.

I'm in the US and still waiting. I filed mine a week before him - go figure.

As I wait, I see stock on the IONIC UPGRADE STORE is getting low. I'm looking at the Sense and now there are only Pink and Orange Sport Bands available. Looks like the Sage Grey / Silver Stainless Steel  Sense is no longer an option - out of stock.

I'm also looking to get a Charge 5 and their Sport Bands are mostly out of stock too.

Not sure how Fitbit will correct this but if you do buy, don't expect to get what you want.
