Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

If it's just slow, it`s ok. well they have a list and we can wait.

But I contacted customer service many times, no one told me what the progress is now.

I think most people are not unwilling to wait, but do not know when to wait for a refund. they should have a list for this

Yep. I was thinking the same. However it is a constructive comment
indocating4the frustration being suffered by a lot of members.

I'm not sure how we are supposed to help as a community if we can't discuss

I returned my watch back in March ,,.  I then purchased a Sense, since I use my watch daily and didn't want to be without it..so now I am out the cost of both watches. I have received no refund as of yet.  I have called 6 times since then. just seem to get "escalations". very poor customer service in my opinion and doesn't make me want to stay with them. very disappointed.

Consider yourself lucky and thankful you received your refund. I returned
by Ionic for a refund since the middle of March and nothing yet. It is
apparent that Fitbit is not processing the refunds on first come first
serve method. Maybe there is still hope. God only knows.

Hi once again to thank all of you that have been responding to my post way back when.  Update and follow up as of August 8, 2022.  As some of you may know, I finally received my refund last week August 2, 2022 credited to my Pay Pal account for $299.00 USD.  FYI: Today, using the Fitbit special 40%  discount website, I  purchased a new Fitbit Sense.   The instructions were very explicit that this was a one time purchase offer,  after registering and using the supplied codes, I made my selection but had to use the Ionic tab to add more items. (there was no "continue shopping" tab).

For payment using PayPal, there was no option to use the funds that were already in my account.  Just Credit card or bank account.   When I hit the review tab, the next widow said thank you for your purchase!!!!! and a charge went to my credit card.

I ended up just having the $299.00 PP credit transferred to my bank account.

Despite the frustration during these months long battles, I still do like the Fitbit products.  We shall see about this new sw.

take care to all and keep fighting for what is rightfully yours.

I haven’t got mine yet. I called them today and they put my recall in as a rush. We shall see. I am not expecting a positive response. Put an alert on my phone to check back in 2 weeks.

I received my refund 96 days after getting the 40% discount code, so the discount expired.  I contacted Fitbit to see if I could get a new code since my refund was delayed.  The answer:  "Sorry to hear about this...but we're unable to send a new code after the code expires".  😞

I registered back at the end of April. Followed the process as it told me log on to my fitbit account and unregister my watch and have heard nothing since can anyone give me any advise on what to do next? Some people i have spoken to said they were sent a box to send it back in, i was just told to discard it. Many thanks in advance for your help

Finally got a link after about 8 weeks for the refund. Has to be done through some virtual card company called B4B payments. Gave a link and a code to register, you create your username and password etc and then it goes straight to a two step verification saying they have sent an code to my phone...I never got near an account to put in any info or a phone number. Eventually it says they can't send an SMS to the number I've provided, which makes sense since they never gave me a chance to provide a number. So now I'm stuck not being able to get into the **ahem** account where I'm supposed to be able to get the refund that I've been waiting for. Has anyone else had this problem and a way to sort it?

Hi SHAW_ZHAO,

You are waiting 2 months. I am waiting for 5 months and still counting.

I am still hopeful. Hope is a great thing. Makes one want to live and wait
in hope.

Hi HeartSufferer,

Makes one want to live and wait in hope is great ideal. i totally agree that. Everyone shuold provides their own wait refund time, and we build our own schedule.maybe it`s a good idea

Hi I’ve just received an email from Fitbitionicrecall@myglobaloptions.com with a code to register but I’m a bit sceptical whether it’s legit. The link then seems to go to B4bpayments. Is this how you received your refund? Thanks Stu

I'm having the same issue did you sort this ?

Seems it’s legit. There was a moderators post clarifying who the email would come from. The issue now is, like others, once you register your code there is no option to add your phone number for the authentication code to be sent too so you can’t continue with the refund.
